My wife and I purchased an O'Day 280 this past September (2011). Very nice boat and we are enjoying it so far. The only problem we have with it is that the ice box does not drain. I assume it drains into the bilge, but cannot find access to see exactly where/how it drains. Does anyone know for sure how the ice box on a 280 drains and how to get it to working properly?

Also, where can I get an owner's manual? Have not had any luck searching the internet.

Congrats and welcome aboard. The 28 is a well respected boat with a lot of enthusiast on this forum. I'm sure that one of them has a manual to share. If not, checkout http://www.iheartodays.com/manuals.html. They list one however there is a reprint cost.

On Karma, there's hoses from the iceboxes to the bilge. They were pretty obscurely located until I found them.

On our 272, there were fynspray hand pumps..that tend to not work welll and seem difficult to repair, though very expensive....I believe you can consider another opportunity....we bought a small elec. bilge pump that stores neatly out of the way when not in use...because we had friends who were continually spilling milk, etc. in their
frig and it would head to the bilge where it would stink to high heavens....better to pump it into the sink with a little elec. pump (pool) where it goes overboard neat & tidy.
just a thought. Pat

That's a great idea Pat. I've never gotten around to installing a grey water sump, your idea is very practical. I'm always very anal about not getting food particles into the ice by keeping everything in closed containers and holding the ice melt until I'm ready to release it into the bilge.
The stench of rotten food in the bilge is an unforgettable experience.

Thank you all for your responses. Will continue to search for a solution.
Someone told me to try putting water in the sink and then use a shop vac to suck out the drain hole, and hopefully free up, the drain hose. Plan to try it when I get a chance.

The ice box does not drain into the bilge. It is connected to a manual pump that is mounted next to your sink. This pumps the water from the ice box into the sink which drains out of the boat. Good luck with the new boat!

Mine is this way as well, but in a 28 not 280.

On my standard 272, the icebox drained directly to the bilge. And if I didn't stay on top of the stuff in the bilge, the smell of what was spilled and not reported was not good. Tracing the route of the icebox line to the bilge was a challenge, as well. What I finally did was install a 12V pump (Nautilus, I think), ran the icebox line to this pump, then attached the pump outlet line to a "T" placed in the sink drain hose. I also learned that placing the "T" in the sink line has to be above the boat's waterline, otherwise, opening the thru hull flooded the icebox. Duh! Anyhow, it works great and drains about 98% of the icebox water. The rest can be sponged out and the icebox sanitized.
