I want to change out my old Jabsco manual head with an electric head. Has anyone done this on a H31 '83 to '87 hull? If so what manufacturer/model did you use and did you encounter any mounting problems? I looked at and like the Raritan Elegance but it won't fit in the mounting area on the H31. all help/comments are appreciated.

Check out the Raritan SeaEra

Raritan Sea Era Practical Sailor rated it "best budget buy" in their Feb issue this year. It's available in both sea water and pressurized fresh water versions (I strongly recommend going with the fresh water version)...both versions are available as complete toilets or as a "conversion" that allows you to save money by re-using your existing bowl, seat and lid. Raritan Sea Era Conversion Both versions can be installed to put discharge on either side or out the rear.

I would spend the extra money for the optional 3-way flush button (ONLY available for pressurized fresh water version) that provides a choice of only bringing water in---which alllows you to add water to the bowl ahead of use, dry bowl, or a combination (same as single button flush)...it'll really cut down on the amount of flush water needed. I don't think Raritan mentions that option with the SeaEra...they do for the Elegance.

Electric toilets should be on their own dedicated circuit shared by nothing else that can pull power away from it, so you'll need to run a new circuit and install a new breaker for it. That's the only part of the installation that's really any more difficult than swapping out a manual toilet for another manual toilet. READ THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS carefully!!

Re: Check out the Raritan SeaEra

Thanks Peggy for the response. This looks like it will do the trick as far as mounting. The manual head was a jabsco 29090 with side pump unit. Can you elaborate more on your preference for tying into the FW system? I'm a bit concerned about contamination of the FW tank. Looks like I have more homework and research on this unit before deciding to on a water source. I will phone Raritan to discuss more on the pro/cons on water source and final dimensions for install. again, thanks.

It doesn't make any difference what boat you have. A head is a head and it fits into lots of different boats. I have an electric head on my boat that is there because of a conversion kit that made the manual electric and it works great and I love it.

Peggy, I don't see the 3-way flush option. How do I get that option with the Sea Era Conversion Kit with pressurized fresh water?

What part of "I don't think Raritan mentions that option with the SeaEra...they do for the Elegance" didn't make it clear that you can't find that option in the SeaEra literature...that you have to look in the Elegance literature? It's on the very first page of Elegance installatation and operation manual--#2, the "ME toilet control." You call Raritan and order it. 800-352-5630 x 6.

One more time: it will ONLY work with the pressurized fresh water version...it will NOT work with the sea water version.
