Hey Joe,

I looked at:

http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/KWST.html

It is a lot different from here.

Maybe you need to just go for a sail on Buzzard's Bay?

Ed K
Hey Ed,
I woke up this morning and there was snow on the ground!
Snow in October! Who'da thunk it? All I can say is I'm glad I'm retired. All my sailing is going to be confined to the comforts of my home. At least until spring.

We just finished a sunny brisk sail on the lake. The trees are bending and whipping around. There were quite a few older members at the yacht club when we put out Cat22 in the water. It seemed odd that a few asked, as we are backing the trailer down the ramp, if we are going to sail in this? We really should have reefed the main at the dock. Constantly letting out the main when gusts hit took a bit of fun out of sailing upwind. It did however make up for it when we had some screaming runs downwind. Wonderful day on the lake.

Oh the humanity. You guys have no mercy on the poor sailors of the frozen north. Hang in there Joe spring isn't that far away. Keep warm, stay safe. And if worse comes to worst we can always get one of those ice skate DN boats and sail in excess of 60 knots.:D

Thanks Joe, I'll do my best to hang in there. Anyway, I still have my little kayak that I can use in the off months. :D

I thought you were near Buzzard's Bay, not Hudson Bay?

So you are really an Eskimo? That dog in the picture sure would have a hard time pulling a sled...

Actually Ed, I'm closer to Mount Hope Bay and Narragansett Bay than Buzzards Bay. I'm what is known as a "Portugee Eskimo" and I try to avoid snow like the plague especially now that I've reached "Geezerdom" and don't gotta' work in it anymore.
Penelope just goes along for the ride and when we reach the other side of the river, she jumps out of the kayak and goes hunting for squirrels while I hunt the shoreline for washed up treasures. I found 63 golf balls along that shore line two weeks ago. There's a country club near the river and they often shoot balls out toward the river by accident. I give them to my son.

I was an honorary Portugee when I was stationed in the Azores for three years. I learned to speak the language, it was much improved with some Cervaza, as a matter of fact the first sentence I learned was Un mas Cervaza Por Favor! Vino helped too! I spent almost all my free time surfing or free diving near Praia de Victoria, Salga bay or Angra.

Dave,
I'm ashamed to admit that I never learned how to speak the language. My folks could speak it but they never taught us how. I think it was because they didn't want us to know what they were saying when they were talking about us. :D My wife Dolores can speak it. Her folks came over from Madeira in the 1940s. My folks were born in the states. I did learn a few bad words through the years though.

Rich
I watch that one sometimes too Rich. The one I really like is the Panama City Marina live web cam but it's been down for some reason. I was able to control the camera. I had a friend in Alabama who used to drive down to that marina with his wife and when he got there he'd call me on his cell phone and I'd get on that web cam site and find them sitting on one of the dock benches waving to me in real time. I'd take their picture and send it to them in an email. I could zoom the camera right in and see the people sitting in their boats on the slips. It was a great site.

Ed,
The one I've been looking for is a live action cam located somewhere on a river in Alabama. It shows a small marina at one end and a bridge with cars going over it on the other end. Every once in a while a boat goes by on the river. I can't seem to find that one. If you find it, send it to me. I'm not into any "cheese cake" cams.

We have an oyster roast this weekend at our yacht club. A group of us will be sleeping on our sailboats, wives included. Takes the need for a designated driver out of the equation......as long as we put the sailboats in the water before we imbibe.

I feel for you northern sailors.
