Snow...

is about 5-6 inches deep here in central PA, slight easterly wind and 31 degrees. Boat was to be winterized next week and pulled. The almanac was wrong...

Got about 2 inches here in Leesburg VA (abt 35 mi NW of DC Beltway) but it's melting fast.

yikes - that's a nasty storm in New England. No snow on LI east end but gusts 40 or so.
New England and New York have barely recovered from Irene and a winter storm is not what they need. Power outages... not good. Best to all in that area.

Quit your complaining.....

It started here early afternoon. We have 15+ inches and it is still snowing hard. My boat is hauled but the winter cover isn't on yet.

Totally disgusting. And this is just the FIRST snowfall of the year......

Well, we're up to 16" of snow right now and still snowing ... fortunately we are like a donut hole with power right now (somehow), completely surrounded by power outages. We just had a transformer on a pole putting on a light show at the corner of our lot for the past half hour, but, like magic, our power is still on! I was outside helping a guy in a pickup truck who slid off the road at the other corner of our lot. I couldn't help but think about the power lines drooping over his truck. It was sort of like dreading water in the ocean with the Jaws theme song playing in my head ...

The biggest problem is that many trees still have leaves and they are doubled over right now. My backyard fence line is going to be a mess.

I looked in on Thunderbird this afternoon and all was well. Waiting to see if tomorrow will be a unique opportunity to sail with a winter background in the hills around us.

We can hardly say that we had snow. It was more of a we watched it fall and melt all at the same time. It was fun to watch a tree limb loading up. We could actually watch it sag as the snow built up on it.

You guys are lucky, all we have here in Saint John, New Brunswick is some flurries. I would take the 16" any day over rain this time of year!!!

I'm about 30 miles south of MainSail. We have 5 inches, melting fast. Even so, I pulled my rigging and emptied the boat yesterday. My CDi foil is laying from one side of the den, up the stairs, and 10 feet into the living room. I'll let it warm up some, then hang it in the basement with the largest radius I can muster, touching three walls. Next weekend, we put on the frame and cover and the crying starts.

Sorry you folks out east got it early this year but, it should melt. I need one more clear weekend as I have a road trip next weekend, and a few days after that to button things up. Of course us folks in MN will be paying dearly in the snow bill and the cold bill pretty soon.

Go figure. Here in the Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo area we were in the upper 50's today. Of course ours is yet to come. Good luck, keep warm and stay safe to all.

Amazing storm ...

We have down trees and power outages everywhere around us. Our Plum tree in the front is toast and several small maples split right off at the main stem in our back yard. Sailing on Sunday was pretty after doing the clean-up work. I had to make sure I had something to grab onto when clearing the snow off the boat in case I slipped.

I'm sitting here looking at the flakes in the backyard knowing that I'll meet them again. Some will be on a sunny day when we're cruising and they will lift our boat speeding it along the shoreline to a quiet harbor. There are a few others that look like they want to join together in eight foot seas throwing salt in my face. I think I'll pick those up in a bucket and put them behind the garage until they evaporate. Maybe they'll drift off to some foreign port before they decide to fall again.

Farther north on L Ontario we got nothing and have been enjoying a great fall with temps in the high 50s and 60s. How weird is that?
