Hello All,

Does anyone know which manufacturer makes a stanchion base which matches the dimensions of my 1978 H30 ? Specifically, I am replacing the two forward most stanchion bases as I made the terrible mistake of lashing my dinghy to and now am battling rust and loose screws.

I suppose I will determine whether or not to try and clean the old bases up if no after market equivalent is available, but I'd rather replace due to the extensive corrosion.

I will ask the same question for my fixed port windows in the cabin, any known compatible manufacturer making these windows?

All Input Is Appreciated,

El Cazador

Hi ec,

We have a likely source for the stanchion base, but I'm also interested to see what others post here about that.

On the windows, there is no source I'm aware of for off-the-shelf windows, but we have a supplier who can make replacements with some information about what you have. Believe it or not there are slight (but critical) differences from boat to boat.

You can reach us through the customer service form.

I would guess that Garhauer would be a good source of bases. They can/will custom patterns.

We just had an incident last year where the wind caught the bow of the boat next to us and totally destroyed the boarding stanchion. The new one (from Garhauer) was not anything like the original (Hunter Vision 36), but the base screwed into the existing holes. A little MaineSail butyl and everything is like new (and actually better).

Wondering what happened to the stainless? It is rare that stainless will not polish back to a decent shine. My stanchions are older than yours. Its short three year life out of Lake Erie caused some redish corrosion. But it comes off. Also sticks in my mind that someone bought out TIQ(Tops-In-Quality) in Michigan. They had many different stanchion bases and designs.

White Water Marine in Michigan supplied me with 3 exact replacement stanchions for my boat. Excellent service.

Thanks Schenk,

I was thinking they are stainless, but was afraid they were aluminum. I will be trying to restore them first. Structurally seem to be okay, I was going to use Sika Flex system to re-bed. The portlight frames seem to be the thing that will prove to be most difficult to replace. I'm thinking of simply re-sealing those as well and bonding the small crack on the exterior of the frame and calling it good. The plastic window just needs a touch-up.

Hi:

I've learned on several topics that Hunter wasn't always consistent with brands and types of equipment that they installed on their Cherubini models. If you can post a picture or two of your actual stanchions and ports, responses from the forum can be more specific.

Have the same model year older than yours. Right now the fixed windows are ok. A lot of sealant but talked with the folks at New Found Metal and they would make a new window if I was willing to square up the opening. Current factory windows are a parallelogram. Would rather not cut the boat but may be the best option.

I can't recall which base the 30 had, but the 33 has a weird base that spills over the toe rail onto the deck. Two screws through the toe rail and two through the deck. If so "Tops In Quality has all the drawings and makes them up. All you need is to determine which angle you need which isn't that difficult. You can get the phone number off of their web site.

Miss TIQ but maybe White Marine can do the same work. When Edson wanted my first born for an offset helm guard I called TIQ. Took one week and $100. I am fortunate to know a pretty good stainless guy. He can make just about anything. Small shop so not cheap however.

Okay, so I've got pictures below and new concerns up here. I went out, took pictures and determined that it is most likely NOT my stanchion bases which are putting water into the v-berth. My anchor locker was so polluted with rusted rode bits and paint chips from inside the locker that it filled up with water and appears to have gotten high enough to have found a hole in the glass somewhere. Take a look at the pics and let me know if you've ever had a similar leak in the "v" of the v-berth ( coming from starboard ). This water runs along the edge of the berth aft to the hanging closet.

Picture 1: Starboard Life Line Stanchion (first one coming aft from the bow rail )
Picture 2: Port Side " " " " "
Picture 3: You can see the bow rail leaning to starboard...
Picture 4: This is why... Aft-most, Portside stanchion base of the bow rail is lifted off the deck
Picture 5: My sad anchor locker. It is now cleaned out with new chain on the rode. I will need to repaint it though

I was in Fort Lauderdale last spring delivering a boat and went to a marine surplus place there. and they had hundered's of stanchions and I am sure if you know the place you can find what you are looking for. I don't remember the name of the place but I can find out from a friend of mine there Good luck and it looks like you need some

Re: Stanchions

I believe your talking about Ancor Marine on the river. I also should go to Austral International up the river a little further than Ancor Marine because they had everything I needed to repair my little old 1976 Yanmar YSB 12 diesel engine. They had really old catalogues and manuals. I usually go to thse two places for engine parts. I suppose I could walk in to Crook & Crook and see if they have old catalogues. Thanks for the mind-jog Bugaloo, unfortunately though, I don't know Ft. Lauderdale so well but I know who I'll ask. If I find them, I'll post their name in this thread.

Do all the stanchions look like that? They appear to have been welded. And with the wrong rod they will actually rust like that. Those stanchion bases are identical to the ones on my H37C. Never looked for replacements but did have one welded. It did not rust like that. There is another surplus store to check: http://www.marinesurplusliquidators.com/ . Anybody know how to find the marine surplus in Nokomis? Just north side of Venice I have been there many times, bought lots of stuff. But can't find them here on www.
