Need help finding bracket

Yesterday we were sailing in Raritan Bay. The bracket on the mast held there by the spreader broke and the cable dropped to the deck. This is a stainless steel bracket which appears to have a hole for the spreader bolt and another hole for the cable of the standing rigging. Does anyone know what this part is called or where I can find one. I have a machine shop and could make if it is not available. This forum is always a help. Thank you in advance.

You need to find out what make your mast is. It could be Dwyer,Kenyon,Isomat, Sparcraft, or Yacht Riggers. These companies supplied spars for the O'Days. The company that built my spars Z Difusion or Z Spar out of Bristol RI went out of business. Your spars may be Dwyer and they're still going strong. D&R Marine might have that spreader bracket and also a company called Rig-Rite in RI may have it. If it's a Dwyer part, you may find it on their site. I would take a rough measurement of your mast width and length and try to draw out the shape of it so that you can get the right part that you need. Each mast type has a number in their catalog. Good luck with that.

It does take awhile to learn the sailing terms and the names of the many parts. But if you're serious about sailing it well worth it. I'm still learning after 32 yrs. It's a universal language. There was always plenty of info in print and now with online info that's available it's even easier. One thing I found useful (and this goes for any craft) are catalogs. Print (free) and online. The added benefit is juicing you up thru the off season.
