Last weekend sail.

Rock solid wind, no gusts, kept us going at about 6 - 6.5 knots for a 5 hour sail. Never tacked once. Just sailed in 35 feet of water dragging a lure.

Is that the sail you had last weekend or the last weekend of sailing. Either way it sounds like a great sail. Unfortunately this coming week will be my last for this season.

Last weekend for me. We sail the entire winter on both the lake where we live with our Cat 22 and the coast (Panhandle of Florida) where we keep that Oday in a slip. I would go nuts pulling my boat every winter.

Did not catch a thing with a stretch 25 lure. Mico does move about the boat well, we have him man the tiller on light air days. He is also starting to learn how to take car of the jib sheet.

Speaking of moving about the "boot", have u guys ever, when working close hauled to wind, played with going forward and leaning your back against the jib with feet on toerail, and move forward or aft ( effectively changing the shape of the jib with your body) to stear the boat? If that makes sense to u the u know what I mean. I have noticed that if the main is driving more than you move to wind, and if the jib is driving more you veer off the wind.

I don't think I'd dare to do that one Keith. I've done some pretty nutty things on my boat like hanging off the swim ladder in the water while the boat is under sail with the pilot steering, or using the head while she's sailing under autopilot on the river.

We are packing out right now for a five day sail. Sailing from Carrabelle Fl to Panama City Fl, spending two days at Shell Island and then sailing back.

Recess, that's exactly where we plan to be next year. If you look north of shell island you will see our marina on Tyndall AFB. I have a slip waiting for me there. All season I have been upgrading boat and trailer and seamanship in preparation for the big move to the big water!

We were going to go through East pass between Dog Island and St. George Island then past Cape San Blas and onto Panama City. But it is currently 2-4 feet and that jacks up near the cape. We decided to sail through St. George sound and then go into the ICW at Apalachicola river and get to Panama City by entering through East Bay, We are currently 1 1/2 hours from entering the river. We had a great 4 knot sail downwind sail most of the morning but had to crank the engine when we dropped to 1.7 knots. What a beautiful weather window for this trip.

Using my cell phone. Tried to attach a cell phone pic of the wife at the tiller. She has captianed the boat for the last four hours.

Yes they do! We had a Spanish Mackeral on while going under the Apalachicola bridge. We are approaching the RR bridge now and still trolling. I have a good friend that caught a Spanish Mackeral all the way into Lake Wimico. I am hopeful for another. We will be docking at White City tonight.

When we woke up Saturday we found the seas had calmed to 1 to 2 so we came down the ditch to Port St Joe and sailed through the cape. Just after Mexico Beach the winds started to shift and die off. We motored the rest of the way to Shell Island. We had to motor quit a bit but still just used 11 gallons total. Had a great night on the hook and had an evening walk on the beach. Woke up and tried a bit of fishing, no luck. Gave up and anchored at the beach just east of the jetty on the Gulf side. After the beach started to fill up we headed for a night at Panama City Marina. Hard to argue with $28 for a night after Boat US discount. went for a walk and currently roughing it with the flat screen. Great trip so far. Panama City has a lot of deep protected water to sail in and nice access to the Gulf.

To avoid the rain and swells that are here today, we decided to press hard for home. 16 hours and 93 miles later at 12:30 am we pulled into our slip. We motored the whole way home through the ICW from Panama City to Carabelle. We were going to overnight and finish coming home today, but a forecast of rain all day today and 5-6 foot swells in Apalachicola bay, convinced us to press on through. An awesome trip to share with my 7 year old.
