Actually, right before the end, Kettenburg built a small number of K-43's in both aluminum and glass, with spade rudders. It was a case of too little too late along with a still, higher price because they used the mahogany house and wood interior as always, not willing to compromise on quality. They also built one K-47 in aluminum.

When the Cal 40 with it's spade rudder came out, the end was here for the K-boats. The designer (i forget who) later lamented causing the demise of boats like the Kettenburgs. He surmised that his boats had no soul....

Not sure. One of three things. Cut her up. Find some funds to store and finish her, recooping the investment in a sale or find another patron that wants her restored.

Around these parts we have a maritime museum on every spit with shops rebuilding iconic watercraft. They've turned it into a high art at St. Michaels, Maryland with the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. We've got crazy weird log canoe sailboats racing that are 120 years old and in bristol condition! Why can't the west coast develop a maritime heritage facility?

Charlie, What is Seasmoke's draft? Some docks have limited water depth at low tide.

Maybe someone on that coast will start a Seasmoke preservation foundation and offer educational day trips. School ships don't have to meet the very exacting safety standards of pleasure craft for hire. If six people ponied up 20 thousand each. It would be enough to get the boat finished and titled. On the Chesapeake Bay there are several skipjacks that are preserved in this way. http://www.skipjackmarthalewis.org/

send an e-mail to barber marina in alabama about seasmoke...tell the history of it and what has been done to it thus far....they may be interested in it or maybe not ....but i do know that he has over 100 ventage out board motores on display from 25 hp down...and all can be take off display fueled up and fired right up...he has a man that is working full time fixing and collecting these...and they are bristal....so that tells me that he is a collector and maybe even a little excentric in his hobies....what would it hurt to try and who knows he may not be intrested but may know some one that is .....nothing beats a try but a failure ...so give it a go and see what happens....

obtw this is the same man tha ownes taladega race way and two others ...i cant think of the names right now ...but i do feel this is valuable info ......

Bogie used to get really pissed because he got smoked by Seasmoke much of the time while racing Santana against her.
