Condensation in Compass Dome

New to me C22 came with a compass, but the dome is fogged up with condensation. I unmounted the unit, but found it was oil-filled and did not want to risk removing the dome.

Is there any way to dry it out?

Can we assume condensation formed in the compass because there is an air bubble in it?

You didn't say which brand, but I had a similar problem with the 30 year old Ritchie on my old boat. Essentially rebuilt it with a lot of help from Ritchie-new gasket, fluid, expansion membrane and dome. Came out like new.

Sounds like a new compass would be easier.

Perhaps but the parts cost $90 and a new compass of similar quality would have been $250.
