Sailing in, best way.

We scheduled our trip to Florida to be in Annapolis during the show. When they moved the boats off of the moorings(they take a lot of the mooring field for show docks) a friend's boat was on the last one left(pictured). The rest of us had to find an anchorage. The years that I drove I always parked across the bridge in Eastport(?) for free. That last year, 2007, we were lucky that Navy was playing football at home. We got to see the parade from the barracks to the stadium. Also pictured, the Academy's training schooner.

1) There is a strip mall in Eastport, you can park there and walk across the bridge to downtown. Maybe 3/4 mile, but there isn't much parking on the Annapolis side during boat show week. And Eastport, of course, is actually the Maritime Republic of Eastport .... local joke there.
2) Shoes that are easy to take on and off, since you tour the boats barefoot.
3) All bars/restaurants mentioned downtown are very cool and have great character... it's hard to mess this one up. The food in the show is good too, but you may as well get out during lunch to sample the local restaurants since there are so many in walking distance.
4) Depending on your schedule, it's really cool to hang out in Spa Creek on a boat the day that the boat show breaks up. It's a veritable parade of all those beauties you just spend the weekend drooling over : ) !

Your boat will love you ...

when you come home with all those goodies for her! Don't let her get a whiff of that new boat smell on you when you get back .... she'll be jealous! With the snow flying in the air when you get home, you will probably be happy for the charter you book!

Personally, I'd save yourself a few bucks and forget about Thursday VIP day. It's not much different traffic wise from Sunday and costs a fair bit more. Restaurants downtown are all going to be a bit crazy but if you head up main street, around church circle and walk down west street, you'll have much better luck. The places there tend to cater to the locals more. Lemongrass has terrific Thai, Stan and Joe's has great drink specials, Ramshead and Sly Fox have great outdoor seating and live music.
If you make it to the Naval Academy be sure to bring a photo ID and do not miss the Antique ship models in Preble Hall.

The weather in Annapolis that time of year can be all over the place so pack for anything.

We will be there Thursday and Friday for our annual pilgrimage-looking mostly at stuff, food, Painkillers, and crabs. Would be happy to hook up with folks on this list on Friday if there is a convenient time/place. Would be nice to connect names with faces.

POL,

The crepe place I mentioned is called Sofi's and is more famous than I thought. It was specifically mentioned this month in Spinsheet magazine, the Chesapeake Sailing magazine http://issuu.com/cdeere/docs/sept_ss_2011/1
(page 48.)

Can you tell my stomach has major say in what I do during the day?:D

Helly Hansen Store Annapolis

I am very excited because this year will be my first trip to the Annapolis Boat Show. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about things I should do or places I should go.

The Helly Hansen store located right down town has the best stuff (clothing for boaters etc.) and have almost everything for half price.

I think that's an awesome idea! Pick a spot and a time and we'll post it.

How about 2:00 PM Friday afternoon at the upper deck above the Pusser's bar (just above the Pusser's restaurant in the Marriott).

Hey! HEy! HEY! You forgot I directed you to the Sailrite store. I'm sure the machine and stuff set you back a $K +-, if you told Dan that "Ron sent me" and got that personal discount... or was that a surcharge?

I almost got one of the Sailrite workbenches when the store closed, but Matt called me and said they managed to get everything in their trailer. RATS!

I've heard that the Sailrite Store in Annapolis was closed recently. However, Sailrite is at the show and in past years offered a discount. You might be able to get them to ship to your home.

Dock Street Pub, Armadillos and The Federal House all have good lunches. Stay out of Middletons unless you like switch and bait games with the menu prices. Poor service as well. Grab an ice cream in the shops by Ego Alley. Can't remember the name but very good IC. Wear comfortable easy off/on shoes. Leave the monster purse, etc in the room. We help deliver and move boats out of the show. Will likely work a couple if days as well. Maybe Jeanneau again. Show close on Monday at 5:00 is a show all itself Have fun it's an annual event not to be missed.

Heh, heh, heh. Speaking of Matt from Sailrite, do you think they have the plans or a kit for their workbench. Theirs appeared well thought out and I didn't make any sketches while I had both hands on my wallet. If you see him at the boat show twist his arm a little.

Don't forget the Boatyard. Sailors hangout in Eastport. Good food and drinks. If driving, you can park at the navy stadium and take the free shuttle bus. Otherwise find a place in Eastport.
