Hi,

My swivel shackle mount on my 1979 Catalina 30 traveller car is getting worn out. the main sheet block shackle has almost worn through one of the sides of it, and I am afraid it might fail at some point in the near future. I am not ready for the straight track upgrade ($), and rigrite doesn't have any more of the traveller cars in stock. Anyone have one to sell from doing the conversion?

Thanks!

I did the conversion years ago and still have the old one... what's it worth to you? You'll have to give me a week to run to my fathers and dig it up so I can send you some pictures. It came off my 1979 Catalina 30 Hull 662.

Getting ready to convert to Garhauer, got it last evening. Might have time to switch out this weekend. Shoot me a message.

Fragi-le: Here's why the Garhauer straight track traveler is more efficient.

The curved track traveler may look fashionable. as it follows the contour of the cabin top but it has a number of problems. They mate at Catalina that designed it never used one!! One problem is the 4 rubber bearings on the traveler car - they rot out and create a lot of friction. The biggest problem is when you move the traveler at some point you're cranking down hill and the car is tipped so that only half of the car is in contact with the track.

The straight track traveler does not have these problems plus it has a bunch of machined bearing that are machined about 3 times to eliminate as much friction as possible. With a straight pull you don't have to worry about the up and down hill problem. Also, if you purchase a Garhauer traveler get the 3 shackle traveler car set up instead of the one shackle set up - it's more efficient and distributes the load more efficiently.

The Garhauer straight track traveler mod was one of the first mod I made because I was sick of fighting the curved track traveler, which I had to work with one foot on the cabin top. Originally, I tried to fix the curved track traveler by having Garhauer build me a 3 block end setup but the first time I used it I didn't like it and sold the whole setup, which is what I should have done in the first place.

I sold and installed Garhauer products when I lived in So Ca. They are a great company. My favorite traveler setup is the one that retains the teak blocks. - I think the teak block setup is more nautical looking.
