I am very excited because this year will be my first trip to the Annapolis Boat Show. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about things I should do or places I should go. Did I mention I am really excited???

Hi, POL. I'm over the bridge from Annapolis, in Eastport. Let me know if I can be of help or shuttle you around. Annapolis has lots of places, with lots of music every night. There are many buildings dating back to colonial days. You can just walk the narrow streets or take an organized tour. Oh, yeah, there's a boat show! The (p.o.w.e.r.) boat show is the following week. 'All U Can Get' will vouch for my fine upstanding and high character values. PM if you like or email.

Re: Ron

Get a two-day pass (you'll need two days to see everything without having to rush around), make sure you don't miss out on some blue crabs and take a look at historic Annapolis. it's a great little town and everything is in walking distance. If you're interested, you can also do a little walking tour of the naval academy. I've always just done one day sofar but this year I'm taking two. It's just more fun that way :).

If you are in town early, have a few extra bucks or a dealer friend that can get you a ticket, the VIP day is much less crowded.

The Naval Academy is worthwhile. See John Paul Jones's crypt in the basement of the Chapel. For a nice dinner walking distance from the show, try Carroll's Creek just over the bridge in Eastport. For something more casual across the street is The Boatyard. For a Maryland style Crab House, Cantlers or Mike's Crab House. Neither are in downtown Annapolis but are worth the short drive. If you are planning to stay in a local hotel and have not made a reservation you better get right on that. The longer you wait, the further from Annapolis you will be staying.

These guys are talking about walking distance from this and walking distance from that, Detroit is within walking distance. ;) There is everything to see and never enough time all of the places mentioned are worth your while. If you can create a business name and letterhead you can request tickets for business class on thursday. They are a fraction of the cost of VIP tickets. Pray for fair weather. I haven't been since we completed our boat ten years ago but it is always fun.

Omg, POL...

You're going to go nuts trying to take it all in for the first time.

Breakfast and the "Pledge" at Chick and Ruths...
A Bacon Cheeseburger at McGarveys...
A Roast Beef Sammy at the Fleet Reserve Club...
Dinner at any number of great restaurants...

And that's just in the downtown two block area...

The Naval Academy is much more secure nowadays, but worth taking the tour...

As a former MRE resident, the cheap parking close in is at the elementary school across the Spa Creek bridge in Eastport. Beats riding the bus in from the stadium and back.

Then there's the show itself--so many tents, so little baggage allowance...

Many others will chime in shortly...

+1 for Chick & Ruths, good milkshakes!

P.S. Don't forget to get a Painkiller at Pussers, right there at the waterfront.

Thanks for all the good tips everyone! My accomadations have been taken care of and I am going to make note of all the great suggestions-paticularly as in regards to the Painkiller! Luckily I have an escort who has been before but I don't want to miss any of the must sees.
Was talking to a group of my dance friends last night and waxing euphoric about the Boat Show and all I got was blank stares and the comment "you're excited about a what? A boat show?"
Some people just don't get it. Sigh....

All U Get-I am looking forward to getting crabs too.

Sometimes I think (actually, I know) my family doesn't quite get it either.

We live about an hour and a half away, so Annapolis is kinda in our backyard. One more out of the way food option is a neat little place that makes all kinds of crepes, both sweet and savory. It's right near the Naval Academy; I always go there when I'm by the waterfront.

This year will be my first time at this show too, so I'm getting excited, as well.

Bring lots of money (or credit cards) and have fun spending it! We're missing the show this year, regretfully ... we had a great time last year! We've enjoyed the show on Fridays. The crowd is generally easy-going and relaxed, so wear your smile and enjoy the ride, it's not hard to do!

Taking my wife to the boat show this year as well. This will be her first time and I think that she will enjoy it. She is new to sailing and she is learning the ropes.

There are tons of cool things to see. It can be overwhelming. Make a list of things at the boat show that you want to see (Annapolis is a different trip all together and you could spend a lot of time just exploring Annapolis).

Enjoy yourself.

Annapolis is such a cool place. I can't explain the feeling I got when I sailed into Annapolis a few years ago. I can't wait to go back to Annapolis by sail.
