i am hearing about folks who went up hudson to find hidey holes in creeks and now are having problems as water raging through these creeks is taking out the boats with logs and other fast moving water tricks...

we had wicked winds in bathurst new brunswick,one fitting on our sailboat dock broke off, putting the dock at a 45 degree angle, luckily the slip that was reduced by the dock folding only had one boat in it and no damage where done, we had to get help from fisherie and ocean departement to get the dock back in place, quick tinking by all the member who where around turned this sittuation in a minor event with no damage. one stinkpotter ropes let go and he now has to make an insurance claim to fix the blue gelcoat on his neigbors boat.

What looks like a Freedom 45 has a close call in Winthrop Harbor. My boat, Triple Play, a 30 foot S2 9.2A with a black mast, is visible just behind a canoe sterned boat with a maroon sail cover.

That is only a few miles up the coast from Winthrop, but is a more exposed anchorage.

Ilya fared well. I removed the main (couldn't quite get to the jenny), secured multiple lines and just hoped. I made the lines looser at first, thinking that would allow the boat to rise if necessary, until the marina manager told me to do the opposite. He was right.
The only thing I wish I had done earlier other than remove the headsail is to secure another spring line from the post side piling near the bow to a cleat on the port side in the cockpit -- which I took care of yesterday. Two sailboats in my marina lost their headsails -- completely shredded -- and one power boat ended up slammed against a shore a good 200 yards away from the nearest dock.

First time I ever hauled for a storm. Glad I did. From what they were saying, I was not sure how the boat would do. Stripped everything first then motored to Amityville for the haul late Thursday. Even though it was not what they said it was going to be, I still had the highest tide I have or anyone around me has ever seen. My concern was that so many were leaving the boats in, even the canvas on, thay they could break free and, well, you know what happens then. They tied across the canal, even my cleats were used. All of them fared well. But, if it was alot higher tide and stronger winds, I am not so sure.
Joe, as sheltered as we are by terrain and miles of trees with leaves, I didn't expect wind to exceed 40 knots, but the winds did reach over 30 knots sustained while I was checking on things.

In the video I posted winds maxed out at 42 with gusts to 62, according to the instruments at nearby Logan Int'l Airport. The problem seemed to be that longer than usual pendants and differences in movement of the two boats (likely due to some known localized wind/tide issues) caused the white boat in front of the blue Freedom (it is a 36) to foul the pendants eventually breaking them.
I wrapped scrap leather around my pendants where they cross my rub rail and am glad I did. There was quite a bit of abrasion on the leather that could have meant a new pendant or a damaged rubber rub rail.
