I Purchased a 1979 Hunter 25. I am looking for any documentation on the mechanics of the tiller. The tiller on this boat since I have had it is VERY stiff and requires force to be able to move it. I have asked several people and no one can figure out how to fix it. It may not be able to be fixed until it is out of the water. But I am looking for any info on the parts used for the mechanics of the tiller so we can figure it out.

Do you mean the up and down movement of the tiller, or the side to side movement of the rudder?

That is troublesome to hear. Since the rudder shaft goes straight down, I suspect there is an upper and lower bearing. One or both of these must need attention. I recommend you consult the owner's manual for maintenance actions.

I assume this does not have pintles/gudgeons mounted on the outside transom, but a shaft penetrating the cockpit/hull? If so, have you crawled under the cockpit (I assume the 25 has a bilge area with access under the cockpit) - maybe you can see any bearings or the shaft, see if it is bent, etc.

Thank you for your ideas and tips! I will be able to see more when I get my boat out of the water in about a month.
