No big deal in NJ/SE PA area. A few precautions with large building evacs but everyone was allowed back in shortly after it was determined that all was safe. Haven't had any quake action here since the 70's.

Now I just have to convince my daughter to cut her trip short and leave Myrtle Beach, SC before Friday.

I knew we needed a shake-up in Washington, but didn't expect it from that source... Soon to be followed by high winds and torrential rains. Think any of them will take a hint and work together?

Didn't feel anything at home in west Toronto. Downtown, the people in my office felt a teeny swaying.

They apparently evacuated the Pentagon. Quick - what can we do to keep them from going back in?

(I keed! I keed! Please take my co-ords out of your targeting computer)

Pretty violent shaking in my office. Mostly side to side. I didn't see any damage though, and I'm now glad for those annoying safety inspections that complain about stuff stacked too high overhead. ("What, you think we're gonna have an earthquake or something?") They sent everyone home so they'd have time to inspect all the buildings here before letting people back in.

Similar story throughout DC. Everyone was sent home at the same time. The subway trains are being limited to 15 MPH until ALL the track can be inspected. I imagine there are still folks who left at 3pm trying to get home. But everyone seemed to remain calm. Probably helped that it was such a beautiful day outside.

It felt like when my boat is on it's trailer and someone is shaking it side to side. My house moved enough to cause hanging fern baskets to rock for a few seconds.

Others in my office felt it ... I didn't. I must have been too engrossed in a report I was writing.

Many years ago, about 1985 (I'm guessing), there was a quake in Illinois that I felt when sitting in my office in downtown Chicago. It was at about 6:00 and most people had already left the building. I remember thinking "wouldn't it be weird if that was an Earthquake". Sure enough, it was as I heard on the news when I got home.

I was in my dentist's waiting room on the 2nd floor of an older building on Main St., Flemington, NJ. The shaking lasted for maybe 20 or 30 seconds. It was a weird feeling and I figured it must be an earthquake. I was texting my business partner asking if this was an earthquake when the receptionists started to freak out. I am just glad I wasn't in the chair with him drilling away when it happened.

Probably too bad that Gus ( the Guy UpStairs) missed the bums in DC by 35 miles.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
I was wondering why my couch was moving one way while the lamp was going the other about that time. Folks on the 6th floor of my building in lower NYC are doing a lot of major construction. I thought they moved a few too many tons of building materials. The scream I heard from the sidewalk 1 floor below should have clewed me in when I think I heard: "The buildings are moving!"
Beautiful day here though. We left our Snowshoe cat in the apartment and went to the beach on LI and enjoyed the beach and a swim. Traffic was a bit more then usual though.
Howz Bubba the Maine Coon boat cat?

I was about 40 miles from the center. Not really that big a deal. The building shook for 20 seconds, we all stood under our door jams and then went back to work. I guess it was a slow news cycle at CNN

Remember that the Richter scale is log based so.... to put it into perspective, the quake in Japan ( 9) was 1585 times stronger than this quake (5.8).

Didn't feel a thing...

sitting on the patio drinking a cup of coffee after lunch. Wife was panicy because the whole house shook. Didn't believe her until I saw the cat looking like he was tasered. LOL... "Good night, Irene"-- what sort of cruel joke is next?
