Now that is just plain silly! I'm all for the frostbite series but really Phil
It does look like fun though. I'm thinking overhead power wires could really ruin you "sail' though. do they make maps with overhead clearance for the roads? I'm thinkin something the truckers would use for overheight loads.

Sorry to be the party pooper but I ain't buyin' it. I've got issues with that level of acceleration with flapping sails, the close up of the jib tack shows it clearly backwinded yet they're going maybe 20 MPH and that's quite a braking system on the trailer.
And that's just for starters.

Fun, but geez Phil do we have to rush to winter?! Remember that for some of us that video is our only hope after 10/31.
I think I am with Neil on this one. I had the same thought seeing the jib backwinded. Clever though.
it sure looks fake looking at the sails, but I don't see how they could be propelling it other than the sails.
remember a few things that are going to make this look fake to us used to the way sail boats normally look, 1) they will not experience any heel on the trailer like that. 2) with wheels instead of a keel, they convert 100% of the motion into forward motion, and experience zero side slip. 3) they do not experience the hydrodynamic drag associated with "hull speed", and thus can acheive higher speeds in less wind than we can on water (look up info on ice boats for more details)
I also found this video taken a while ago, it appears to be Maine Sail after he had a few drinks at lunch, and felt the need to make a demo video on make shift spinnakers, without using his boat...

Looks like they made an abrupt stop at the red light simply by dumping the main. If so that's quite a bit of trailer drag, more than those limp sails would overcome. Or they've got a very efficient and invisible braking system. And when they're rigging the boat there isn't a breath of wind.

While it could be fake and maybe there was some sort of electric motor "hidden" under the hull and driving the rear axle I am struck by what Four Points said.
We forget how much resistance there is in the water. The wheels can roll pretty freely. It's possible that it is just wind. Anyway it's a "cool" thing. (I cant believe I just wrote that. LOL I'm still sailing and the cold white junk is months away.

Reminds me of the dropzone antics on days when it was too windy to jump. We'd haul out old Paracommanders (round parachutes), attach the suspension lines to whatever would roll, slide or drag across the grass. Injury rates would go up quickly. It was definitely more dangerous to be there when no one was jumping. Yep, we were drinking..
As we saw in the intro they did wire up a way to activate the brake lights and the turn signals, and electric trailer brakes are not uncommon...
I'm inclined to beleive it's for real, look at 1:57 when they jibe going around the corner... there is clearly more wind there than the video would otherwise indicate, and also when the jib luffs, it seems to be caused by passing cars, not because it's flapping in the breeze...
