My boat and me are now stuck on land with my shoulder surgery today will keep my Hunter 36 out of water until Oct,I did plan on waxing and bottom painting but will have to wait, trip up to NY also cancelled but I will be ready for sailing again for our great sailing weather here in Florida in Oct.
The doc said will be even better.

Sorry you are not sailing, I am new to being older and have had to slow down a bit too due to health adjustments. I just bought a home in Cape Coral which I believe is not far from you. I would be happy to help you wax and spend some time in a boat yard once we get down there this winter. Let me know if you need a hand.
I think that we both are from Long Island too so it would be fun to talk.

I used to speak Long Island when I lived in Hyde Park. But I can't get down there. I'll be waxing my boat so it can go in the water in May! :( Take care Nick, don't rush it.

Nick, all the best. At least you have seasons! When I broke my leg skiing two and a half years ago, I'd planned to come back to the boat right away. I didn't. Things: batteries got trashed, never plug in but I'd "been meaning to" reconnect my solar panel. Also "forgot" that I'd wired the new powered subwoofer to the sump pump switch (there is a reason, too long to do here), so four months later had to figure it all out again.

Lessons learned: keep your batteries healthy by charging or solar, write everything you do about wiring down right when you do it.

Oh, one other thing: don't have accidents.

Hope you recuperate quickly, enjoy the painkillers while they last! :):):)

Stu

PS it's TAWK no talk - I'm from Queens:eek:

6 weeks to recover? No problem. Just don't plan on shipping the anchor by yourself. Work with your PT. A year and a half since they rebuilt my hip and I can jump off the boat onto the dock.

What's a windlass? I heard about them somewhere on the innertubie webbie thingie, but have no idea that there's any other way to raise and anchor than a cup or two of coffee waiting for the tide to rise. :)

Re: Lefty

The wounds heal in a week or ten days and you get the strength back in the muscles very slowly. Had a friend that smashed his shoulder when he was hit by a car while bike riding. Seven fractures in the bones and he has recovered 85 percent of his motion and strength. He is our age about.

It could be a lot worse trust me as I have a full rebuild
how long ago did you do this....i did about the same thing 5 years ago ...was on top of my office working on the dust collector duct and slipped of on to the cement floor 9 feet below ...how i missed all the benches and machines is beyod me.....took me three months to gain use of my left arm again......yours looks worse than mine .....no broken bones only a bad sprain.....all those years of working on top in the steel business never got hurt and wham when i was doing what i thought was a safe profession (woodworking).....as they say accidents happen at home....
