There were only 30 2QM20 engines made

Weird but true. I found out I have serial number 0006 for the block and 0005 for the clutch housing. I haven't seen any more numbers yet. Apparently the serial numbers are 0001 to 0030.
There was also 2QM20F and 2QM20H that they made a bagillion of. I don't know what parts mine share with those, I hope most of them.
The info I read says these 30 were prototype engines and may require different parts. Has anyone else ran into this issue with their 2QM20? As long as I can get piston rings and valve seats and such I think it is really cool I have something so rare. If I need special parts for the rebuild...well I am just hoping that is not the case.
I am selling my YSM in a few weeks and installing this engine.
I posted not too long ago and said my 2QM was red, some one said they didn't come that way, that they were grey.
These 30 must have come in red. Inside the engine there is red paint overspray. And no other evidence of any other color.
Anyway, anyone else heard of this and know about the parts?

Went looking for my old 2QM20 serial number this morning. But I had given the documents to the new owner of the engine. Somewhere in NJ it powers an H27.

I never knew if it was originally raw water cooled or a real 'F' model. The cooling system looked like an owner upgrade. But maybe that is how they did it at the factory.

2QM Yanmar

I have a friend in Gulfport, who has a 2QM that is some thing of an odd ball. This must be the same engine. This one is in a Cheribini Hunter 33. I'll have to check that out. But they made a ton of 2QM's, think they were 15 HP.

There was(is) a 2QM15. But the 2QM20 was(is) a true 20hp engine. Or at least according to the power graph that was in my manual.

I hope that the only real difference is the transmission. That 0006 serial number is under a bracket that the motor mount attaches to. So you wouldn't be able to see it if you didn't take it apart. If you have one of these motors, the transmission is the give away.
They did make a 2QM15, 15hp. I thought I was buying that when I got this one. Turns out the guy didn't know the difference(or pretended to not know). I don't mind having an old engine. I can make it as reliable as it ever was. It is a little big for the compartment, I can modify the cabinets so it will fit. The weight is the only real drawback to this engine I care about.
I hope that the engine parts are interchangeable with the other 2QM models.
Woodster- I will check into the tractor parts site. I bought the parts for my other engine from BlueWater. Now they are out of business. I don't know where to get parts now. Torrensen won't send them to me because I am in Texas.

Attacked by Chinese Manufacturers

If I stop posting, it is likely I was killed by a harbor freight tool. I just destroyed a 20 ton Harbor Freight press trying to remove the output shaft. It pressed the shaft out 1/4" then the frame bent and the bottle jack flew out of the front along with the transmission housing. Luckily I had a plywood shield between me and the explosive device.

In Covington La. is I think the Yanmar dist. for your area. Their parts people are pretty knowledgable most of the time. I can send a phone # if you like. They do have a website. While Yanmar is pretty protective of dist and dealer areas, the dist. will gladly sell retail in their area.

Have you tried Mastry in Florida. That is who I am directed to buy from by Yanmar. I have been very happy with their parts availability for my old YSM 12.

Thanks for that distributor as well. Kloudie/Easy. I got the manual today for the 2qm20/30 engines. So I am ready to start ordering some parts. I started taking the engine apart, thinking "I am only going to replace what really needs it" but the longer I mess with it, the more I want the whole engine completely redone.
I just discovered the engine and propulsion forum. Cool. When did they add that? I would have put this thread there had I known.
