I love it. This type of craftsmanship gives me something to shoot for when I take on a project.

Nice to see people with the needed skills restoring these beautiful boats. It's great!

Thanks folks. It is tedious and time consuming but someone with a basic range of hands on skills can do this. Above all, it takes the patience of Job.

looks great, but could you go into a little detail about the seeping 1k gal/hr? I have no experience with wooden boats, and I know all boats leak some, but I thought the idea was start out with tightly sealed joints and seal / coat the outer timbers so they didn't absorb the water and rot... Am I just totally wrong here?
From my experience with wooden hulls, yes, you are mistaken.

While we line the joints with oakum or hemp, the fact is, the seems will not be water tight. After the boat is in the water, the wood absorbs some water, swells, and presses the joints tight.

BTW -- if you launch and the water seems to be coming in faster than your pumps work, run a tarp under the boat and against the hull. It wont stop the water but it will slow it down and give the boat time to seal.

And don't forget Dutchman's putty.....buckets of sawdust from the wood shop
