We have a 2000 Yamaha 9.9 4-stroke outboard on our 1986 Catalina 25 sailboat. It has become very difficult to tilt the engine. It seems like it needs to be lubricated, but after purchasing a grease gun, we found that the indicated lube points in the owners manual do not have grease fittings (zerk fittings). There are no threads to be seen. Does anyone know how to lubricate this or what might be going on? We're desperate!

Thanks,
Lee & Michael

Try the service manuals:

Is it the tilting or the lock mechanism that is causing the trouble? The tilt mechanism is known to be big trouble.

Thank you! Yes, it's the tilting mechanism. I think we've solved the problem.
