Unexpected benefit from the bimini top

Hey Bill,

Does the skylight you have installed in that new bimini negate a lot of the shade and sun protection?

I have the factory model and it has a small 12x9 window over the helm and I added a 10x20 over the stbd winch so I can see the main while trimming. But yours is probably four times bigger than my two together.

It appears that Bill has a cover for the inside that attaches with velcro to provide shade as needed.

Yup, got it. My previous question/reply was done without my noticing that the thread was on page 2. Had I realized and looked on page 1 all would have been obvious.

Back to the original "peace while sailing" comment. The windows are great for monitoring all things sail trim and reefing etc. If you find you are stressing just put the window covers on. I have found that once trimmed and the sun is up and coming through the wondow I can close it and just use instriments.
course it does help with getting an "all over tan" while helming the boat. Others prefer Otto for getting a tan but I find that I lay down and just get one side done withhim at the helm.

The wife and I have a rule... COMFORT FIRST. We do like to sail well and as fast as possible but if we are not comfortable then we dont enjoy the day and that seems to me to be what we started sailing for in the first place, Relaxation ! We let the racers stress over the little things.

Brian, That was the point of my original post. I sorta forgot that sailing is supposed to be fun and relaxing first and perfection should always come secondary for me. If it takes a bimini top to make me forget about making things perfect, then so be it.

Now if I could just get my First Mate to sail without her bimini top like PrincessoftheLake does...

I'd run aground somewhere if my first mate did that. Jiggly things distract the hell out of me. :naughty:

Nice but looks like the boat is at anchor or motoring since the sail cover is on. It took me four looks at that photo before I figured that out!

Yep I got it Kermit, knew that was your point. Just letting you know It's OK to be a sailor that thinks Speed and perfect sail trim is secondary to comfort. Lol

You are right Fly. There was no wind that day so the Jolly Swagman was using the iron genny.

New biminis on my P28. The idea of a window on the forward part of the helmsman's bimini sounds like a great idea. Don't know if I have enough room but I am going to check it out.
