Want to beat the heat in Bar Harbor Maine

Too late to do anything this year but the family and I are considering cruising up to Bar Harbor, ME next year the the summer months, ie. June-August. We have never done such before so I wanted to see what the recommendations are. We will most likely be on a Irwin 28.5.

Don't stop at Bar Harbor. Go to Camden, Rock Port.....all of Penobscot Bay is gorgeous. To beat the heat, find a pint in an air conditioned pub.

We usually do coastal cruising Down East. Nothing to it. Many places to stop along the way. Returning we normally motor sailed, again with frequent stops. We were lucky one time in that for the two weeks all the way to Winter harbor and back we had no fog.

Do it! We'd love to have you. I've sailed up and down the east coast a couple of times,
Maine is no more difficult than anywhere you sail. Just pay attention to your piloting. Rocks are less forgiving of error than sand.

I'm biased living here, but Penobscot Bay is my favorite sailing area. Leave plenty of time to sail here. Bar Harbor is nice too. :)

Last summer, we spent a couple of weeks cruising Maine. There are nearly infinite choices! The only caveat is the fog. Nice to have radar up there.

Cruising the Maine coast in the summer is a great idea. Penobscot Bay is my first choice--many islands to explore, some with guest moorings. Depends on what you and the family enjoy--going into town for dinner, sightseeing, etc. Then Bar Harbor, Camden, Boothbay are big tourist attractions. The best resource for planning your trip is a book called "Maine Coast Guide" by Rindlaub. As mentioned already in earlier replies, expect fog...and plan accordingly. We spend the winter planning our trip-great to look forward to on those snowy days! :)
