The small bimini that is possible on a H260 works OK when sailing, but doesn't offer enough shade when at anchor for swimming or lunch.

Here are photos of the new boom tent I sewed up for this hot summer.

Very nice. I want one. Here's a $10 attempt I had late last season before we pulled the boat for our broiling season. Some old tent rods keep it stabilized in a breeze but we lack shade when the sun gets lower.

I'd like to know how much material you used.

Thanks for posting the pix and stay cool, Mike

9 yards of 60" outdoor duck from the local fabric store. We had a 1/2 off coupon so it was about $50.00.

I already had the #4 grommets ( 1/2" inner diameter ) and thread, so that was the total cost.

Removeable Sun Protection Bimini Side Panels

Great boom tent !!!

We had Sunbrella clip-on panels made for the back & side of our bimini that help block the sun & have even used them while sailing. They fasten to the top of the bimini with small plastic click-on buckles, with the bottoms being bungied through grommets. The Sew Shop in Alachua Florida made them for us at a very good price, probably cheaper than us buying the Sunbrella & making them ourselves.

Great idea Jim.

I fly that huge US Ensign off my stern. There is usually no wind on the hottest days. I just pull the flag around to where I need to block the sun.

With your big canvas system, anchoring stern to windward with a bridle would be a huge help on those super light wind days at anchor. After 50+ years sailing in the tropics I'm pretty well toasted and certainly need shade during the heat of the day so your project is an encouragement to get after it. Above all else it's about trying to stay comfortable on those blazing hot dawg daze.
