Was anyone else confused by Coleman owned Sospenders practice of printing a rather ambiguous date on the bobbin for their automatic Sospenders?

...was printed on the bobbins while the leaflet with them said Bobbin Expiration 2 3 2013.
Well..to me (I work in the pharmaceutical industry establishing expiries for new products) it looked like the expiry on the bobbins was mis-printed and was either mistakenly indicating that they expired in Feb 2003 or Feb 2010. My Wife refused to use hers until I could be sure the bobbin was within expiry. I emailed Coleman and was rather rudely informed via email that there wasn't a problem, but the response was not very informative.
After a series of emails about the potential mis-print, including one where I was told that they would send me new bobbins while apparently questioning my sanity, I finally figured out that they print the date of manufacture on the bobbins and they expire three years from that. Note that nowhere on the leaflet does it say three years from date of manufacture or that the bobbins have the date of manufacture and not the expiry...which makes a hell of a lot more sense to have on the bobbins to me...printed on them.
Why would Coleman assume that people would keep the little pamphlet with the expiry on it? I wrote the expiries on the bobbins in permanent marker. Looking at my old bobbins they both had expired in 2007. Only one had changed to red on the built in indicator though. On the plus side the units were quite easy to rearm and the design seemed good.
My bad for not paying more attention to servicing them, but I am rather disappointed in the Coleman's customer service, particularly for a life-saving device.
