Hi Everyone

I need to repair the raw water pump on my 3QM30F. I think the pump is driven off the cam shaft. The shaft is scored and needs to be replaced. My local Yanmar dealer says the shaft is no longer available. Is this pump actually a Yanmar pump? Is there a bolt on replacement? Any suggestion would be helpful.

Thanks

water pump

Jack, this can be used to fix the scored seal surface of the shaft:

If the bearing fits are bad, a good machine shop can make a new shaft out of stainless for not much money.. The bearings and seals are available from Yanmar at very reasonable prices.. I just rebuilt that same pump for a buddy's 2QM20..
Jack I have a complete pump for sale for 250.00 if you are interested, It is in excellent condition. You can email me at bugaloo28557@yahoo.com Robert

Have you openned the pump ? If it's the same one than on our 3QM30 then it must be a Jabsco 2760-0001 or 2760-0003... (http://www.pumpagents.com/pdf/JabscoPumps/2760-0001.pdf)

If it's leaking from the holes around the pump, it's propably two things (and probably both). The inner seal (part #14 on the .pdf above) must be dried and cracked and the bearing (item # 11) must be blown due to too much tension. The bearing is the weak part on this pump (we used to change it every 350 hours because we were putting too much tension on it). You can buy the bearing in any locale bearing store for around 45$ (FAG 3200-B-TVH if I recall correctly, many interchange). For the inner seal, you need to buy it from Jabsco, that seal was made to their specs, it's worth around 15$. You can use a big c-clamp and a socket if you don't have a bearing press. Read the ''Assembly'' section in the .pdf if you want to know how to take it apart.

If it's leaking, don't take any chance, the bearing will likely explode within the next 25-50 hours...

Oups, misread, if it's the water pump on the engine, than it was originally made by Johnson... the impellers are no longer availible from johnson so I'm not sure they still carry spare parts for the pump...

Right you are Maturin. He's talking about the raw water pump, middle left in picture. You can't see it but that's a new Jabsco behind the pulley on lower right. That's the 2QM20 that I replaced with the 3YM30. Great engine in a lighter boat.

Raw water pump

I think the pump he is looking for is a double impeller pump that bolts on the front of the engine and is driven by the cam shaft and not by an engine pulley. Robert

Thanks everyone for the help. I will let you know how the repair goes. Unfortunately work is getting in the way of sailing.

Jack, our local Yanmar dist. {Mastry Engine Center} listed this shaft as still available. Part no.124770-42030. This number superseded all others. He has them in stock.
