My 86 Hunter 31 has the panel with the tac, idiot lights, kill knob, igntion and start switch. Or it will for a very short time until the existing crack finally works its way to the top. Too many pulls on the kill knob, I guess. There was a thread way back that provided a very reasonable source for these panels, but I cannot find it. If not, I'll have to make my own. The original seems to be some kind of fibre. What have people used to replace it? I've already added water temp, oil press and volt gauges to the port of the panel, so there is no room to enlarge it as I would have liked to have done.

The shell is a Yanmar part and it is very inexpensive. Just move your gauges to it. There are two models, one with the opening for a Tac and the other witout it.
Look it up in Torrensen the shell for the Yanmar Type B panel is around $30. It has gone up but what hasn't.
Tried looking it up but could not find it in the Torrensen site. I can't order from them anyway because the West Coast is not part of their distribution area. You don't have a part number do you Benny?

That's interesting, Steve. Everything you do seems pretty well thought out. What was behind that move? Means you have to leave the helm to shut down the engine, but also means you can do so while working on it without climbing out into the cockpit.

Not speaking for Steve but the big advantage of moving the kill cable out of the cockpit is that it keeps it out of the weather. Down below or inside the companionway, water doesn't tend to get in and rust up the cable internally making it hard to operate.
Somebody told me about a starter/kill switch that you clip on inside engine compartment, for when servicing. Never seen one, but would really come in handy instead of jumping back and forth.

that is an easy arrangement to do ...if you have an electric kill switch on your cockpit panel all you need to do is get a couple of starter buttons and wire them parall to the existing ones you have now..... Napa has Cole Hersee brand that work very well for this...if you only have a starter button on your panel in the cockpit and a pull cable to kill your engine..... then you can wire the starter button up only and manually kill the engine with the same lever that the pull cable is attached to..but if you have to do it manually be very careful around the running engine as to not get caught up in the belts as they will take your fingers off or pull you in if you have long sleeves or a tie on
