How does someone get the stains from seagull and other bird droppings off the hull? I am having a hard time removing the stains by scrubbing.:cussing:

Mr Clean Magic Eraser!
If you haven't tried these yet on your boat, you won't believe it. Even have them on a mop handle so you can scrub the sides with it. Just melts off the dirt, mold, algae etc... and you don't have to scrub. They're a little pricey but I pick 'em up from Big Lots in the automotive section for a dollar each (in a box of 4) as wheel cleaners.

Be careful with the magic eraser. Its basically just sandpaper and will damage some surfaces. I think the trick is to get the deck waxed so its easier to wash off the droppings next time.

Magic erasers have their place but for sure you must realize what they do and don't do. I don't know about them "being basically sandpaper" they actually are a combo of baking soda and bleach and work great especially in the cockpit where there is not wax applied. They are great to remove localized scuffs on waxed surfaces, but go back and rewax. They certainly takes off most every mark we've ever encountered. I would NOT use them on the hull with a handle as described above in any large amount, unless things were truely a mess and then you must wax and buff to protect the gelcoat so that it stays white and resists mold, stains etc. I don't understand recommending waxing the deck... that is much too dangerous. On the boat we crew on a couple years ago, someone they hired got a little over zealous and waxed the upper deck in some areas and I almost broke my neck. My 2 cents ;)

Some of these cleaners will work good on one item and but not another. If Totally Awesome does not work (cheap option), you may think about Simple Green as another option.

Inq and Lutz, points well taken.
I'll have to admit, my boats have never been clean enough to wax really I guess. The p26 is a '74 and although it looks good and I keep it fairly clean, It's not glossy like a new boat. It gets bumper rash from the dock etc and if I don't go down for a few weeks it'll get algae and mold in places and the M/E just kind of melts it off where detergent and a brush or rag takes an unreasonable amount of scrubbing (for me). Wish I could spend a weekend JUST cleaning the boat and applying a protective wax or? Hard not to put those sails up though...
I also use the M/E on the vinyl pool, again where nothing else gets the mold off the top edge, the M/E just wipes it off with no scrubbing or effort. Guess sandpaper can be like that, often wondered if it was too good to be true...

Regarding waxing the deck, I was thinking of a product such as woody wax for non-skid decks. I agree regular wax would be pretty slippery and dangerous.

Cool Inquiztr, I did not know there was a wax that would not make it slick, that would be great. I will look into that , thanks.

Slofut, I actually salute you ..... there is alot to be said for just getting out there as much as you can and not spending so much time on keeping it pretty. We probably do too much of that but my husband is a Virgo, so I have no choice!! Actually it works nicely for me because I always have clean cars, boats, toys!! But we are pretty big on keeping our boat clean because it is the best defense against damage. That said, there is something nice about alot of the racers we sail with...... their boats are not that pretty up close but they are great competition!! Sailing a sailboat is really the goal isn't it.;)
