What is this..above my engine gauges?

Thanks a million for all the answers. Good to know what it was for. I don't think I'll need it for the gauges and I've been thinking about installing a 5W solar panel near there and might wire it up through there but change it to the more modern style outlet. Either way thanks for the help. Now onto a hundred other questions....

check out http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|328|49497|1471367&id=1648222 it has almost the same footprint as most of the 5w panels, weighs less, is better made (compareing only to what I've seen from the 5w panels), and it outputs more than twice the power...

I have this hooked up to a Genasun GV-4 MPPT controller and have been very pleased with the results so far. If I was going to do the installation again, I wouldn't change anything.

It's a Perko instrument panel light base. The slot visible has a notch to the right to hold a bulb pin. The base is for a two contact bulb. There was a stainless dome that slid over it with a window on the side to direct light down onto the panel.

The original one looked something like the plug-in part in the first pic. The second is the current equivalent. The original one appears to be out of production.
