Hi, I have a MacGregor 26 x [2002] and it has apparently been subjected to the weather all it's life and consequently the gel-coat is very chalky. Can anyone help me with an effective way to restore the shine? [preferably without too much hard work] Regards, Mike

Poly Glow. 2 step process, use their cleaner and then apply the coating; I did 5 coats on a 41' boat in a couple of hours and it looked great.

Can you use the polyglow on the decks and non skid as well? My cockpit has the same chalky appearance and can rub off on you when moving around in there.

I just finished the stern with 6 coats of poliglow and put decals on first as instructed. It came out looking brand new, you can even see the reflection of the motor mount in the picture and it was a cloudy day. I'm sure it will work on your boat.

I would have done Poli Glow but my gelcoat was in such bad shape I had to paint.
Once you apply this product, do you have to use it exclusively or can you switch over to another? What happens when it breaks down?
I think the instructions call for an annual touch up coat and they sell a stripper formulated for Poli Glow.
A boat repair place near me just tried to sell me on "compounding" my 25 foot 1999 Catalina to fix the dull, not chalky, finish. And then waxing it. He asked $500 for just the part between the waterline and the rub rail. As he explained it they use a very fine grit abrasive to take off a thin outer layer of oxidized gel coat. For a seriously chalky surface compounding is probably good, but I think it's overkill for my boat. I'll try Poliglow instead.
In order to change products you will have to use the Poli Glow cleaner to take it off then apply your new product. But once you see the results I don't think you will want to change products.KandD said:

How does one do the freeboard when the boat is in the water? Can't always take the boat out of the water. And what about a color trim that is right below the rubrail? My hull is beige but I have a blue trim line. I fear that if I start cleaning and waxing, the blue will bleed into the beige.
