I wonder if they checked out any of the boats they hit or the pendents they cut? Probably the cheapest bet was to simply get them out of harms way. Later, if damages were found, all one needed to do was follow the debris trail to the cause.

As a repeat customer of Conch, I emailed asking them to see if if they were aware of the incident / seen the video (I sent them the you tube link, not this thread), here is the response I got:

Hi Brian

Thank you for sending the link, its good to keep up to date with where it has been posted.

It was a couple of months ago, we were aware of it at the time.

The video doesn’t actually show the whole picture – Cielo had actually been at anchor in Anegada for 24 hours before this happened.

A boat came in and fouled their prop which was the start of the problem.

All damage to the boats (which actually was quite minimal) was rectified a long time ago.

Huh? At anchor 24 hours prior? Under what bizarre set of circumstances would their sails be up and drawing in a crowded anchorage if:

  • They had been at anchor?
  • Their prop had been fouled by another (and how does that happen)?
  • Somebody else had a fouled prop (in case I misread it)?

The explanation by Conch makes no sense to me. Maybe too many painkillers. Sumthin' not right. You got some 'splainin to do, Lucy!

Yeah, maybe they did but where's the strategy in that? Is sailing off the hook in a crowded anchorage a good plan? If their own prop is fouled - for whatever reason - wouldn't it be better to clear it on the hook than underway?

I admit I don't understand what they were thinking and that's as accurate a statement as I can make on the event, I don't understand. Judging by the result it was a poor strategy that could have been much worse if not for the helpful neighbors regardless if they were being neighborly or acting out of their own self-preservation.

Me thinks that there is more goin on here than meets the eye. Read legal posturing by the charter co., the "victims" and the credit card capt.
I'm gonna take the narrators version of the events as he was there recording the whole thing and took the time to place subtitles on the video. Clearly he hadn't had too much rum yet.
Dont see putting your sails up when your towing an anchor line of the monohull behind you.

Just for the record on my monitor the bikini is aqua green. Am I missing something I should replay the video for?

I think the most important lesson that can be taken from this is to always color balance your camera and monitors so that the true colors of the....umm......situation is known. ;-)

The Charter company did say that their prop being fouled was just the "start" of the incident, might have been a whole series of bad moves after that.
Ya wouldn't think someone would say "Now that our prop is fouled let's up anchor and sail out of here".
D'oh! An exclamation of dismay when all your efforts result in spectacular failure.

I am tempted to think that they were ALL charterers so only had their deposits to loose.
Hence their benevolent attitudes towards that clown.
In my neck of the woods that guy would have had his fortune told in no uncertain terms.

How could you not notice the blue bikini ? I had to rerun the rest of the video because I was momentarily blinded to anything but the bikini.;)
