Wrenches for rigging adjustment

What type of wrench do you use to adjust the rigging. I've tried an adjustable, but it does not stay tight enough and I don't want to use slip locks or vice grips and mark the fittings.

Anything special from the suppliers or am I missing something here.

Channel lock pliers on the top to hold the shroud steady and a screwdriver through the open bodied turnbuckles.

That part I found in the Selden mast tuning guide and is not reccomended. I could see that weakening or breaking the turnbuckle. An adjustable wrench on the upper body is reccomended.

why not use the proper size open end wrench on the upper part and a fork wrench of some kind on the open body turnbuckels and a marlin spike on the closed turnbuckels.....

This sounds great for an open body turnbuckle but what do you use to turn the closed body that my boat has. Anything I use to put through the body bends when I try to turn it. Do they make some kind of strong pin for that?

friend of mine uses an awl for the closed turnbuckeles on his catalina 25. I would consider replacing the turnbuckels if you have closed...
