So I buy a boat this year. It's been the snowiest winter on record in Vermont. Its been raining for weeks. Lake Champlain is about three feet over flood stage. So the yards can't launch boats. I got a launch date of June 6th.

Bob, your mulch will soon be spread out nicely by the rising ocean.
Mcrow, your boat will soon be floated off it's stands as Lake Champlain rises another 30 feet.

We shouldn't knock global warming.....now we all can get deep draft sailboats and have better upwind performance!

Seriously, this weather stinks. I was at the boat yesterday and it was blowing stink and raining. The rain was supposed to end at noon and the winds reduce to something manageable for single handing. The winds picked up and the rain went. They were forecast for even worse the next day so the trip was sandbagged!

Don't forget it's Mother's Day too. Just so happens to be my mom's 78th birthday Sunday plus celebrating Mother's Day for my wife.

My boat is still covered and with my laundry list might not see water until mid June. :cussing:

Hey,

My boat is still on the hard. For the first time since I started sailing in 2003 my boat wasn't launched in April.

It's not all bad because I should be ready to go in next week.

Emmanuel is in having just been launched this morning. Managed to get the bottom painted and the hull buffed out although it was a challenge trying to find the occcasional weather window when it was above freezing and not snowing and blowing like stink. It has been a non existent spring. Hoping for a better summer!

I'm in the same "boat" as you. First time in 25 years I get a sailboat on Nov. 26. 3rd snowiest winter on record here in Mn. Floods at near all time high. I drove to work in a snowstorm on Monday. As for getting projects done...I'm doing only what has to be done with the boat out of water and trying to splash as soon as I get a weather window. Been blowing and raining here as well. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice but I'm not ready and the weekend is looking at thunderstorms.

You have my empathy for the June launch...hopefully I'll be in within a week. I will have owned the boat for almost 6 months before it sees water with me on board.

We've noted that the change in seasons seems to have been delayed by a few weeks to a month or more over the course of the last three years. The weather we have now usually starts a month earlier around here.

Maybe that means the "end' of the season will be delayed as well, giving us all a full season in any event, i.e., take your boats out in November instead of October!

For the East Coast and inland, blame it all on La Niña combined with the NAO (North Atlantic Oscilation) .... two years in a row!!!!! Great for skiing, stinks for sailing. grrrrrrrrrr

I'd just like enough water in lake Hefner to float my boat... Added lazy jacks, new running rigging, LED's, new gelcoat in spots and bottom paint. She's a dry dock queen.

It's a no brainer! Dump the mulch into your boat and turn it into a planter. Your new bride can creat a beautiful garden. Logic prevails. Fair Winds and Full Sails...

Isn't it frustrating to be a sailor in central Oklahoma high and dry, knowing that there is flooding starting just 60 miles to the east?

My dock is on the ground and I have a thin patch of water at the end where I have moved my C-22 to. I am waiting for spring(?) rains to float things enough to be able to float my C-27.

Strange days indeed....
