I have teak oiled and varnished. With another round of this at hand, I decided to try an alternative. I have installed some of that synthetic decking material you an get at home D. We will see how it holds up. For $30.00 if I get a few years I am satisfied. The new material is on the left by the winch.

Which composite product did you choose?I'm thinking about the same issue and figure I'd rather be sailing than refinishing every few years.

Just kidding. I had to come up with a solution to the 45 year old rotted teak on my boat and did the all my "wooden" parts with Azek. I couldn't cut loose with $700+ for teak stock.
Topsides and antifouling paints are next.

not sure what composite it is. I just went into home depot and bought the only synthetic deck planking they had. paid $30.00 for 1"x6"wx12' long. it is not as trong as the teak that i replaced and is hown in the picture. I have stepped on it and it does not break, just flexes.

This is why I replaced my sliding hatch covers with aluminum. Guests broke my original set and a replacement set. No more breakage or varnish for them. Your hand rails look good

it's been a month and they are hanging tough. bird crap cleans off good too.
