Greetings to all,
I am restoring an old Northstar 22 with keel/cb. Presently there is an (fairly ugly !) trailer-style winch inside the cabin to lift/lower the keel. On my previous boat (Seafarer 24 c/b) I had a nice bronze winch mounted in cockpit which was used to lower/raise the c/b. I would like to replace the current installation in Northstar with something like I had on Seafarer. My search on internet returned nothing when searching for (keel / c/b) bronze winches. Any ideas/suggestions what and where to look for ?
One idea I have is to use a halyard winch, something like this: http://www.lvjwinchesusa.com/halyard.htm
Thanks !! Zoran

When I replaced the fiberglass CB on my 23' ODay, I put in a steel board, and needed something substantial to lift the new board. I went to a boat salvage yard, and found a two-sided winch I mounted over the CB trunk. The ratio between the two sides was 10 to 1. The lift cable for the CB went to the small side, and the control line that went to the cockpit, went to the large side. So, for every 50 lbs. of weight on the CB, the effort to lift it was only 5 lbs.
A huge benefit was that I no longer had to run down into the cabin to raise/lower the CB. Great for single-handing.

The 2 sided winch sounds very interesting. I tried google and got everything but, any idea on where I might find one of these?
