I have hair line cracks in my holding tank around the pump out port. It leaks a few oz. a day . Can this be fixed with epoxy? Temporary fix or permanant fix ?
Thanks for your help.

It kinda sounds like one of those things you really don't want to fix but instead just replace the entire tank. That is the type of thing that can absolutely ruin weekend cruise. How is the rest of the system? Hoses and such need attention? Perhaps look at replacing everything while your at it....

Might make sense.

It would help to know what the tank is made of. Is it a standard roto molded plastic tank?

I just took a perfectly good 12 gallon tank out of my boat because I'm replacing it with a larger one. You are welcome to it although it probably would have to be shipped Hazmat:)

It a 24 gal bow tank on a Pearson 31 made by Kracor. Molded plastic. Yes I'm going to replace hoses.
I can get the original tank but it takes a month and $450.00 dollars

I'm having a new tank built of plastic. It's welded together just like it was metal. Check around with Google to see if there is anyone in your area who does plastic fabrication. They might be able to weld it on the spot. It would probably be expensive but not as much as replacing everything.

There's NOTHING that bonds permanently to polyethylene...the only fix is a new tank. However, there are alternatives to Kracor's outrageous prices and lag times that are worth investigating. I'm not sure whether Ronco Plastics Ronco Plastics (no relation to Ron Popeil and his VegoPocket Rotisserie knives) has that identical mold or not..but they do make a MUCH higher quality tank (at least 50% thicker walls) than Kracor for less than half the price and have more than 400 shapes/sizes to choose from, over 100 of which are non rectangular. And they install fittings in the sizes and locations specified by the customer. Turn around time is typically only about two weeks. They may not have that identical mold, which may require finding a new location for the tank...but since you're gonna replace the hoses anyway, it's prob'ly worth the effort to do that to save the time and the money.

I'd be skeptical of having just any local fabricator weld a tank to match yours...the quality and durability of a molded tank depends entirely on the quality of the PE and the welder's skill in doing this particular application.

You're welcome to contact me directly if I can help with this project. Meanwhile, you might want to spend some time reading the discussions in the Head Mistress (all about sanitation systems) forum and you might also find the link in my signature worth checking out.

Over the last 30 years I have sourced several new roto-molded tanks. One was a new holding tank to give us more capacity.
The only water tank I ever had to return to the retail vendor was a Krakor. They had "over cooked" it during production and the smell would never go away.

Not much of a statistical sample I admit, but I can say that the Ronco folks seem to get the higher kudo's from other boaters and so far will remain my first choice.

FWIW, as boating expenses go, the cost of a new tank direct from Ronco was one of my less-expensive purchases!
Note B: deal direct with Ronco and be assured that your drawing of exactly where you want all of the openings will be faithfully produced.
:)

... Just another data point....
