Recently my sail club has a spring cleaning event. We found a box in the attic.
No one knows how, when it got there. Most of all, no one knows what this
nice piece of equipment does. It looks to be a custom-made device with
a count-meter, a printer etc. I am so intrigue by it that I bought it for a few bucks.

Can someone please offer some kind of clue? I assume since it was in the sail club
it must be a navigational aid or device of some specific purpose.

could it be something to time races? I see "HDCP" (Handicap?), start, reset, time/print etc.

Looks like a unit to start and time sail races. The white, blue and red lights in the upper left would correspond to the start-sequence flags. Also, references to times, etc. I wonder if this was custom built by someone at the club.

I think it may be a Disconbobulator Ray Controller. When hooked to the proper equipment it was used to rid the world of gnomes.

Many years ago they were known to invade boats and this device was one sure way to rid the marinas of them. It must be true, when was the last time that you saw one in your marina? <g>

well all i know is if you send it to Mainesail he will have it working in no time at all and it will be AYBC compliant.........and unmersufly clean as well as it will not wag,bag,or sag at the knees any more.........

I agree that it is something to do with racing....maybe someone built it then it failed or someone protested and away to the attic it went....does it function?

Let see... 2 post man times 3 meter readers equal how many bendable integrated community workers?
Seriously, it makes sense that this is some kind of race starter, seems to be externally powered, so why the current meter set up for 2 different scales? I'm thinking maybe it is measuring current draw through time and printing it out on some thermal graph paper?

It is used to alter your race time in a believable way so you always win. It should have a 53 pin connection on the back to attach the flux capacitor.
By setting the time you wish to finish and your handicap it morphs time for those around you so you can win any race.
What is under the part that looks like you would put a lock on it to prevent tampering?

or a device for detecting the stability of water ballasted 26 foot sailboats.....

no... but seriously... it is obviously a home built race result calculator ...

AND.... a blood alcohol breath analyzer for after race parties.
