Cracked water filter

while going through the spring commissioning I noticed my water filter for the galley and lav sink has a crack. Looks like I didn't drain enough water out of the lines and it froze...

I assume I just need to remove the screw and the clear bell housing that cracked will come off, but I figuire I'm going to have to replace the whole unit, I doubt I can get just the replacment cover. any suggestions?

pics were taken with my cell phone and a flashlight, so sorry if they are not the best...

I picked up just the plastic cover at good old West Marine a few years ago. Probably the least amount of money I have ever spent there.:)

hmm, I'll run by the local WM tomorrow and see if they carry it. If not, I'm driving up to the Defender spring sale on Friday, so I may just pick up a new unit while I'm there. It lists on their site for $18, and everything is usually 10% off at the sale...

Hmmm, draining is not usually a good idea, low spots won't drain, better to use propylene glycol. Hopefully this is not your only problem.

I assume you meant hopefull it is my only problem :) It is in fact the only freeze damage I sustained, unless you count a bottle of teak oil that leaked out. Thankfully I had it stored in a case similar to a pelican case, but without the foam inserts, and it only made a mess of the contents of case.

The plumbing is very simple with one feed line, that T's off to the galley and lav sinks, and the previous year I was able to pump the lines dry, this year I guess I didn't do as well as I thought.

I may use the glycol next time, but I didn't want to have to flush the system out if I was able to get the lines dry... I think I failed.
