My Favorite - Take a Guess!

I have to say the the Grateful Dead IS my favorite. Channel 32 is on my Sirius radio day & night. I have also created the Grateful Dead channel and the Jerry Garcia channel on Pandora.

Easy Wind (Workingman's Dead) is the boat. Althea (Go To Heaven) was my last dog. Bertha (Skull & Roses) is my current dog. One of my business's is named Blue Sun Corporation (from Scarlet Begonias).

Ok, so I am a little focused. Although I also dig the Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, Dire Straits and Mark Knoffler (The Notting Hillbillies was a great sideline he did), Eric Clapton, Little Feat, Pink Floyd, and The Band. My collection also includes traditional stuff from the 1970's such as The Eagles, Bob Marley, Jackson Brown, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doors, The Rolling Stones and Traffic. And some off-beat stuff like David Bromberg, Poco, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Seldom Scene, The New Riders of the Purple Sage, and Old & In The Way.

Lately I have gotten into the Jam bands like Phish, Moe, Yonder Mountain, Umprey's McGee, and Dave Matthews.

I am in the process of moving all my music to an external hard drive that I can take with me and play through the laptop. I have also put some music on my Droid. But I have found that Sirius can meet most of my music needs for a weekend. A 2 week cruise is a little harder.

I don't play music while underway - I prefer to hear the sounds of the water and wind.

(Oh, I do have one Buffett CD somewhere. It has just never made it to the boat.)

This has been an interesting thread and has provided some insight on fellow listmates.

As said by another, I enjoy a variety of music having been in my teen years in the 60's. These days I prefer harder music than most of my contemporaries (Van Halen, AC/DC, Def Leppard, etc.) but when I'm on the boat it's different. Jimmy Buffett is a staple as well as James Taylor and other music along those lines. What I listen to most aboard is music from the early 90's Irish movie The Commitments, after all, they're the Saviours of Soul!

Just did a four day "guys weekend" last fall to see Further at Red Rocks. Amazing shows!

just stick it ya puter and save to my music...then copy it to what ever ya want ....

dont any body lisiten to the Kingston trio besides me wow i am so old lol..

Oh, yea, I even saw them in concert thirteen years ago. BTW, I get how to digitize this stuff, just trying to figure out how to do 500 of the things...

Getting off topic ...

Ok, I really liked Gaelic Storm so it reminded me of a movie we saw named "Once". If you like Irish musicians you have to see it. It features Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. Once you get past the beginning of the movie, which is a little goofy, you find that you get drawn in and you can't get enough of their music. They perform so much fantastic music together. The ending leaves you a little heart sick, so it's a good story as well, with more than enough humor to keep you in a good mood.

Anyway, I just looked them up and find that their band is named The Swell Season and Glen does and absolutely fantastic cover of "Into the Mystic", one of my all time favorite songs. Here is a link to their album. Three songs in a row, "If you want me", "Falling Slowly" and "When Your Mind's Made Up" are featured in the movie and are fantastic songs that feature them singing together (I really dig listening to Marketa).

Ok, a little off the sailing theme except Into the Mystic draws it close but give it a try. You'll want to get the DVD and their album. BTW, scroll all the way down for those songs I meantioned and suffer through some of the breaks that are in it ... don't know what that is about. "Low Rising" is a good start as well.

MS - How did you find time to get to Red Rocks? Very impressive, to say the least! :D

I have only been to one Furthur show - Stabler Arena at Lehigh University last winter. I was really pleased - I was mostly a Jerry Garcia fan and had well over 150 GD & JGB shows from the late 70's until his death in '95. The guy from Dark Star Orchestra does a great job on lead guitar.

I took my nephew Matthew (also my godson) and his girlfriend to the Stabler show. They had been living in Thailand and came back to the States when he was diagnosed with a pretty serious form of cancer. His chemo & radiation started a week after that show. His first Dead show was Merriweather Post Pavillion at age 4 months in June 1985.

Matt has since been to Furthur shows on Coney Island & some small venues in NYC, MSG, and other places local. My sister doesn't let him out of the house for long. He just turned 26 this past Monday and we all pray that he makes 27.

Red Rocks is a spectacular amphitheatre. I have never been there myself but have several tapes of GD shows from there over the years. The 3 night run at Red Rocks last year looked to be pretty good, but it looks as if the 25th was awesome. Hope that was yours.

Just watched/listened to "The Eleven" as I checked out the whole setlist. CLASSIC!

It's so interesting how so many of our unusual music taste intersect with those listed here:
Sun Kil Moon, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova we love too....
Just discovered Dave Brubeck ..and I now will wait for Further to play in San Diego because I loved what I heard when I looked them up..
So much music, so little time!

Mariachi music is the best. I really like those giant guitars they play.
How anyone can listen to those endless grateful dead jam sessions that take up 50 to 70% of each album and concert is beyond me. They did have some wonderful songs though.
Bob Marley is outstanding for summer breezes and feeling good. Bluegrass is great but can only listen for a while then it starts to sound alike.
David Benoit is great for jazz. If you like Brubeck listen to Benoit also.
Go to your local library, they usually have massive CD collections you can get almost anything.

I sure do like Chris Smithers. What a great version of Friend of the Devil he does. I'm pretty worn out on Buffet except I still do enjoy A1A. That one was before he became famous and started going for the money.

I know I am going to get blasted, but I like to stir the pot so here goes: I think from Margaritaville on Buffet has been churning out songs that are all pretty much the same formula and he has made a fortune on it. He decided to forgo the "art" part of his music in favor of money.

In a way JB reminds me a little of Thomas Kincade the artist. Liked a little of it at first but now it is so predictable and commercial. but, to each his own, I have no issue with anyone who likes it, just not for me.
