We are going back to Florida in the next week and when we finish there later in the spring are looking to trailer the boat up to Long Island Sound, but would like to return home for a couple months. We are looking for a place to leave the boat/trailer for that time while we drive back to Utah.

If we left it in the area from Atlanta north to Charlotte we could take I20/I22 or I40 back west to home and then return and get the boat and continue north later.

We are looking for a secure storage yard that someone could recommend or possibly someone's home if they had room to keep it that long.

If you know of either please PM us or post here.

Thanks,

Sum and Ruth

So your plan is to head up I-75 then west on I-20?....
Yep or up I95 and then I77 to 40 depending on what my storage options are.

I'm hoping someone is familiar with a place personally. I know of 3 in our small town, but might only recommend one of them to someone that would be wanting to leave a boat there.

Just thought I would see what someone has knowledge of. I'd pull the two outboards off the back, but it wouldn't take a whole lot for someone to take 180 watts of solar panels off the boat if they weren't worried about damage cause while doing so.

Thanks for the input though Ed,

Sum

there are several storage places here east of atlanta ....i am 32 miles east ...if you are coming up I 75 to I 20 you could find one on the way to atlanta...i dont know much about the west side other than i dont recomend it for your purpose unless you go about30 miles west of atlanta....a place called Carolton ga might be a good spot...if you go 75 north on to chattanoga you might find some in cartersville as well ...by going further north on to nashville via I 24 and then to I 40 you would have some luck.... i am sure of that.....

For short term storage I would go for a marina rather than a general purpose storage yard. With lots of boats around yours would be a less likely target for thieves. I kept my previous boat, a Mac 26D, stored outside on its trailer at Jakes Landing Marina in Lexington, SC for two years and didn't hear of anyone having theft or damage problems. With the mast down it might be possible to get the boat (but not the trailer) rack stored inside, but it may be too long for that. Outside it would be in an unfenced field with several dozen other boats, mostly powerboats. (803) 359-9268 It's about 20 - 25 minutes from the I-20 and I-26 intersection in Columbia, SC.

Sumner..... Why not consider pulling the valuable stuff off your Mac and lock it in a storage unit? A 5x5 would be large enough to hold your OB, solars, rigging and whatever else you felt uneasy about leaving unguarded. Most RV storage places also rent spaces, too. Just a thought.

- - Satellite Beach, FL.
Our company rented a space and outside storage in Columbia, just off of I-20 for 4 months. Not the best part or the worst part of town but the owner lives onsite and pays attention to what goes on.
We didn't have any issues with the unit or the expensive geophysical equipment we had stored outside and didn't hear of anyone else having any either.
James, the owner, is a very approachable guy and I found him to be straight forward. He'd tell you if you needed to be concerned.

try this.....2009 Park-A-Toy | 4820 Cobb Parkway NW | Acworth, GA 30101 | 770.974.0330 | parkatoy@bellsouth.net .......this will be your best bet if you are going up I 75 north to chattanogga....this route will also take you to I 40 through Nashville and Memphis witch is a better ride than I 20 through Alabama and Mississippi...the I 20 ride is a crappy ride in Miss i can assure you of that and if you do I 40 you can stop and see the Elvis Mansion on the way through and also go to Tunica Ms about 30 miles south and gamble your trip money away lol ...also while in Memphis you can go down to the River front and do the river walk thats sorta cool ....

======

After I wrote this I read JVBs post. I'll retract this in favor of "what he said". Sounds like a better plan, to hide a tree in a forest.
