O day 25 Nyack. New York
I have purchased 2 outboards from Porta a Bote which was mentioned in a previous post by someone else. Service is quick and they beat Defender's "on sale" price, by over $100 both times. I ordered the last one over the phone and It was on my doorstep the same week. It was a Tohatsu 3.5 with a long shaft. Having spent over $3000 with this outfit over the years, I reccomend them without hesitation. Ernie

It really ticks me off that one can't buy the 25 inch shaft without the electric start. I don't want that extra 10 lbs hanging off my transom.

You talking about the 9.8 HP? The 6 doesn't have electric start.

Maybe consider the 6 with the 25 inch shaft. You would save way more than 10 lbs.

Not sure what your boat is, but we also have a 5 HP with the long shaft and we used it once on our 26 foot Mac and it pushed it into a 20+ knot at about 5 knots on about 1/2 throttle. So maybe the 6 is all you need. I changed the prop out for a high thrust one.

We went with the 9.8 as we feel the electric start is a 'big safety' factor for us.

Good luck,

Sum

In search of my next boat Palm Harbor, FL
Squadron, I have an h22 also. I got my Tohatsu 6hp Saildrive from Onlineoutboards.com. I got free shipping. You don't need more than the 6hp, assuming this is for a H22. They were easy to work with, and the shipping was quick. Something like 4 or 5 days.

Still trying to replace my 5HP Johnson that was stolen off my boat last year.. Lesson learned, take the outboard home, or lock it well.

Onlineoutboards is fine. I priced one from them last year, but instead decided to support the only company in central Indiana that supports sailing, Sailboats of Indiana. The price was about the same, plus they did the warranty check in, got the motor running and made sure everything was working as it should.
