Owner of a Beneteau 305, I am looking to change the old depth finder by an AIRMAR DT800. This smart sensor is NMEA 0183 and compatible with my new GPS Standard horizon CP180. I have 3 choices for this sensor 0°, 12° or 20° tilt to compensate the deadrise. The sensor is located behind the quill slightly on portside. At this location the hull is almost flat. I believe the 0° should work as it will work in a range of 0° to 7°. Is anybody has an experience with this type of sensor. Thanks for your help

Terry,

I would suggest that you take the old one out and clean up the hull before you buy the airmar unit. I speak from experience! I bought my Airmar fathometer/temp (which I love) and then took out the old one. My estimates of the angle and the thickness of the hull were off and by the time I had the mounting blocks ready for the outside and the inside of the hull the flange on the Airmar transducer was not long enough to make it through the blocks and the hull. Luckily the company took the shorter one back and sent me a longer one.

Wait to buy it until you know exactly what you need and you will save yourself much concern!

Cheers

Thanks Ansley,

Thanks for the tip. however I would like to reduce the time out of the water...
I unfortunately not receive much feedback on my question. I may have to pull the boat out of the water, take my measurement and order over night!
