I have a oceanis 430 1988 model
I was wondering if it is best to sail with the prop turning (gearbox in Neutral)
Or to put the gearbox in reverse to stop the prop from spinning

If the prop is spinning does this harm the gearbox does it wear out the prop shaft seals?

If the gearbox is in reverse can that damage the gearbox if the prop is trying to spin?

Will depend 100% on your specific gear box. If it's a Hurth/ZF box then you can do either freewheel or lock it in the direction opposite your travel, so sailing forward lock in reverse. If it's a Yanmar/Kanzaki they specifically do not want it locked in reverse unless you install a separate and specific shaft brake. They advise neutral while sailing.

If it is another brand you'd need to check with the maker..
