Last year we only went as far as Winter Haven. This year we are going at least as far as Jonesport as we have friends there. Going further will depend on weather. Last year we were running late and were getting beat up on the way back...we got stuck in Salem for a week waiting out hurricanes and tropical storms. It started getting cold and we ended up coming out the Cape Cod Canel in 30-40 knot head winds and 8 foot seas on the bow. We need to be in Baltimore by Oct!

Just noticed the places you mentioned are right near JOnesport so I guess we will be checking them out!

Five days from Portland to Canada singlehanded, a respectable showing, I think. I got suckered by a lull in the wind out into the swells of Igor rounding Great Wass Island on the way back and pretty beat up.

I didn't read that the current conditions are caused by la nina. what he said is that you get colder winters after a la nina and if this is the benchmark from which we are going lower, then look out!

We down in Louisiana are even getting whacked by this one.. High today was 35F .. We are looking for sleet/slush/snow tonight and tomorrow .. Sitting home doing home things .. too cold to go out ..Looks like it will be pretty miserable here until Sunday when it will be back in the mid 60's...

Ahhhh Home!!

This brings back some childhood memories. So glad I'm from those places and not in them now. It does make one wonder why, after the first winter, anyone would continue to want to live there.

No snow in Carson City this morning, but 19 deg and sunny. Looks like possible 70's in north/central California this weekend.

I've been x-country skiing since before three pin bindings were commonly available in this country. It was as big a part of my life as sailing for decades. I went out twice last winter and got all enthusiastic thinking I would do it every day. That was the last of the good snow.

I was just sitting her thinking about pulling the skis out of the basement and going. This looks like a winter when the snow might last :)

And, I did. Thanks for the post. It was just enough to tip the scales.

Very reassuring. Despite being a couch potato since haul out, no heaviness in the chest, no pain radiating down the left arm, even trying to take a short cut and ending up fighting my way uphill through knee high unbroken snow. I don't think I've breathed that hard since racing to rescue the dinghy on my science cruise.

It was beautiful. A reminder of what a privilege it's been to spend every one of 60 winters in the northeast. Been there, done that, nice tee shirt, thanks. Balance is important in life. What's it going to take to balance 60 years of snow? I'm damn well going to find out.

snowmobiling??? yea, right, below freezing and 20+ mph wind chill. Who in their right mind would enjoy that? Course the frost bight series in not far removed so I'm thinking it is contagious.
Now wind surfing in 80 degree water then drying off on the beach lathered in sun screen and listening to the breeze blow through the fragrant tropical flowers while my first mate........ SPRING NEEDS TO COME N-O-W!!!
