We have been having some nice weather here in SoCal.

I live about 30 minutes from Pyramid Lake and I was in the water by 10am. This is what I found in the center of the lake. The wind did come up at about 1pm and I was able hit 6.7 knot on my GPS.:D

A foot? Give me a break.:D We are double the amount of normal snow. We have had over 38" for the winter so far and more to come. There is still 20"+ on the ground right now.

Thank goodness my boat is indoors for the winter this year last year she had almost 14" of ice in the cockpit....

I am going to the Keys to sail in the last week of March. I can hardly wait.

Have a good weekend.:D

38" - is that all! I had 80" in 2 weeks in december. Had an additional 40" since but only about 20" on the ground right now. But still looking forward to splashing about April 15! Why am I not at the Soggy Dollar Bar??!!

Thats a foot of snow on the BOAT, not on the ground! We've had about 90" so far but only 2 feet remain right now. Every storm or two, I climb in and push up on the cover to take some of the load off.

Tom, are you going to tow the boat there or charter one when you get there? Either way, I envy you! Warm weather AND sailing!!!! Oy!

80" - 90"!!!:D That's what you get for living on the East Coast.;)

At least your weather seems to break and get above 32 every other day or so. We have been in a deep freeze for quite a while.

Des... We are driving down with another couple from this forum Dave and his wife Cathy of "Cepheus Dave" he was our mentor last summer and fall when we took our boat up to Lake Pepin on the Mississippi.

We are going to stay on Conch Key and Rent a House that comes with a newer 23 Com-Pac sailboat. :D:D

Here is their site.

Yeah, I remember Dave. I think he stopped over to help you with the boat or your first launch. Seems like a real nice guy.

The keys look wonderful! I'll hate both you guys until April. The girls are off the hook though. I haven't been to Florinda (except for business) in 11 years. I think it's time to go back. I'll save this link. Be good while you're there and leave big tips. I'm going to drop you name when I go! Have a great time.

We are meeting up in KC Kansas and driving from there. Dave and Cathy are from Rochester, Mn. They are going to New Orleans for a couple of weeks before meeting us to go to Florida.

Most of the way, will be one driving and the rest sleeping or reading. We seem to have a good many things in common.

Just got an email from Dave, he has purchased the Nav Charts that we will need. Now me, I would have went and just relied on my own dead reconning. Espcecially on my ability to tell one group of Mangroves from another. Yeah' right....;)

Bummer on all that snow! To add more wood to the fire, we are headed to the Havasu Pocket Cruisers Convention 2011 at Lake Havasu, AZ in two weeks. Weather should be 65 degrees and full sun.:D
All you snow bound sailers can watch on Live TV from the convention.

Now, back to my "Bunker".

Sounds like a great trip.

Besides the charts I'd have a GPS if you plan on getting very far from Conch Key. I'm really good with maps and charts, but down there everything looks the same if you can even see it. You don't have to go very far before landfall on the low horizon drops out of sight.

If you have a laptop download SeaClear II or OpenCPN on it (both free) and the free NOAA charts for the area and then plot a course out from where you are staying and download it into a handheld GPS to use on the boat. Very easy and quick and you will have the waypoints in the handheld to use going out or returning. You could do this at night.

This sure made life easy for us on our Florida trip....

We were there last year for a quick visit and to check out the area. It is way cool to walk the bridge, knowing it came across the pond.

Watch for us the sail 135 - 150 boats under the bridge.
