Who Knows About Diesel Outboard Engines ?

Hi we are planning a voyage this summer to one of the most remote places in the world and will travel thousands of nuatical miles between areas where we can get fuel. As such we will be carrying lots of diesel and would like to have a 9hp or so diesel outboard. Does any one know of any reliable diesel outboardhttp://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/tags/outboard.html engines?
Does any one know how reliable and durable they are?
I f you want more info on our voyage to the top of our planet please feel free to look around our site

Thank you!!!

Don't know about them but I was surprised to find these small ones.. Made in China..

Note the weight.. A 4 hp hand cranked one weighs 100 pounds.. the 9 hp electric start weighs 183 pounds !!
EDIT:
OOPS I see from your website that these motors are the ones you've found as well..

i would not trust my life to anything made in china, especially if it has some kind of motor, they seem to lack to knowledge of heat treating and the diverse way the metal must be treated or made of to have a reliable engine...

Getting replacement parts could prove difficult also.

Where on earth are you going? Perhaps an investment in sail inventory would be a better investment? Motors are only needed when becalmed or for when you are manuvering in a tight place. I'd note tha Magellan sailed around the world 3 times with out a motor.

Magellan didn't make it around the world once. After his death his second-in-command completed the voyage.

Magellan was murdered in the Phillipines and never completed his circumnavigation. His goal was never to circumnavigate anyway, it was to find a passage around the south american continent and prove that the Spice Islands belonged to Spain. Some of his crew eventually made it to those islands and eventually returned to Spain via the Cape of Good Hope in the last remaning ship, thus completing the first circumnavigation.

Perhaps you were thinking of Columbus' Atlantic crossings.

Yanmar makes diesel outboards. If you are looking for a used Yanmar diesel outboard, I think Alfred Holzer has one. He owns the Schooner Bay Marina in Bayfield, WI.

Aparently in the ice of the arctic there is very little sailing to be done and one must have the ability to move quickly away from ice flows etc.

Its a sad realization but the nwp has alot of motoring.
