Modify Oday 26 rudder to swivel

Fellow Oday owner;

I am going to either modify my existing rudder to swivel or am going to have one made by a fiberglass company to do so. The rudder always is the first thing to drag on the sand here in Pensacola.......not the stub keel. I know it's slightly longer. Does anyone have any information on a good way to make the hinge?

I had a Helsen 22 for many years and rememeber the pattern of the cut with aluminum plates on each side. Al-u-mini-yum for those in the UK!

My rudder is slightly shorter than the keel. Do we have the same rudder?

well on our 222 we have the kick-up rudders. Maybe you can fashion from them?

Check out the "Daysailers" part of this O'Day Forum. I just gave a guy named Geohan some info on tip up rudders under "Rudder Question." He has an O'Day 25 and wants to do the very same.
My rudder blade hangs down below my keel with the centerboard up on my O'Day 222. There's a lot of info and pics in that thread that will be useful to both you and Geohan. Check it out.
