Hull/Keel Joint Crack - O'Day 322

Hello O'Day owners,
I am contemplating the purchase of a 1988 O'Day 322. The boat shows real well, seems to have a solid deck, and is fairly well equipped. My only major concern is a crack in what I assume is the hull to keel joint. The photo is not idea, but does anyone with a similar O'Day Hyrdokeel have any comments on whether this is just a matter of some epoxy filler and paint, or could it be much more serious? I have not put a moisture meter on the area, but it sounded OK when I rapped on it. I hate to bring in a surveyor until I am sure this boat is the one I want to make an offer on, and if there is a good chance this is a major issue, I will probably walk away now. I have heard from one other O'Day owner that his was the same way and he just faired it and painted it (assuming the keel bolts are tight).
Any advice or information would be helpful.

Had the same problem with my Oday 25. We ground out about 1/2 inches wide and about 1 inch deep all away around the keel and fared in in then put epoxy over that and paint. It was no big deal but I learned that the weight of the boat must be off the keel and kept off until the boat was put in the water. So the weight of the boat didn't compress the faring. The whole thing cost less that 200 at the yard and came out great.

Greg, my 272 has the same visible seam where the bolt on lead keel is joined to the hull. we've had the boat 24 years and it's never been an issue....the 322 and 302 are fabulous sailing boats.....They were cool looking boats as well and still are today....including the 272LE, they have aged very gracefully..

Thanks for the info...It does not look to bad, but I think I will have to take a real close look. I guess if the crack was BAD...I would see evidence of water in the bilge around the bolts?

OK. Thanks for the info...Any way to use something softer(er) to seal the joint to allow it to flex? Caulk or something?
