Dido WTF!! why would ANYBODY waste their time doing something a bone headed as this?? ....someone has far too much time on their hands and couldn't come up with a better way to waste it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Quite honestly, as a fellow artist, I think it's great. Capturing the moment just before losing something loved and/or of value, is something we can all relate to. So what if it isn't what you would like to see done with a boat and so what if it isn't functional in the traditional sense. One of the goals of art is to make people see things in a different light and to start a conversation. It appears that this piece is doing just that. On another note, look at the ambition and engineering involved in creating this piece.

There ought to be a law against that. And I'm a Libertarian.

its not any worse than some one mounting the south end of a north bound deer on one side of the wall and the north end on the other side of the wall....i think its cool that this fella has done a lot of thinking out side of the box...who knows maybe some day the navy will expand on this.....

How may times has the Coast Guard been called out to rescue this guy? Now when my boat has its back end sticking out of the water - will anyone come?

Dumbass. I can appreciate art but why do something that could easily be mistaken for a vessel in distress.

I equate it to someone doing performance art of having a heart attack in a public park.

Now, I wonder if he has insurance? What happens if you incur damage, or worse, someone gets hurt while trying to assist and then finding out it is supposed to look like it is sinking.

I think this is dumb art. Just my opinion.

Seriously guys, do you really believe he's out there "sailing" this thing? Yes, he has "taken" this across the English Channel, did he sail, motor or have it shipped. Either way it was done, it was for the shock and/or spectacle of the experience. I bet now it's on display in a gallery somewhere or in a studio collecting dust.
As both a serious sailor and a working artist, I find it interesting to see sailing represented and used as the inspiration for artwork that is more than a pretty photograph or overdone watercolor of a placid marina scene.
I highly doubt this boat is in the water and taken out sailing on a regular basis.

Love it! Just from an engineering standpoint alone it's amazing. However, I bet it's really tender once you get the sail up!

Cheers,
Brad

Hmmm, sounds like he intends to use it as a boat:

He describes it as "the permanent and mobile image of a wrecked ship that has become a functional and safe leisure object."

There are lots of permanent and mobile actual ships sitting derelict in boatyards everywhere. At one time, their owners also thought they'd always be sailed too.
At any rate, the guy's in France so our tax dollars are not being spent on Coast Guard calls.

Just because you can doesn't always make it a good idea. That doesn't come close to some of the wierd things people have done in the name of art.

Don't get me wrong Ross, I never said it was a good idea, but it does make me laugh a little, and I'll defend his right to do it. This may not have been a good idea either, but it makes me laugh too.

As a guy who does most of what he does to either entertain myself, or prove some one else wrong.... this is brilliant. Wish I had thought of it first.
