This is on the center board? Stainless steel below the waterline is deprived of oxygen, so,yes corrosion could be a problem if you sail in sea water. Bronze would be a better choice.Just replaced piviot pin on a 24 footer. Replacement pin is Stainless Steel. Just been told it could be subject to corrosion...anyone out there experience thiis?
Perhaps you mean galvanized. Zinc is the sacrificial anode that we attach to our propeller shaft. I have never seen a bolt made of zinc.I woud have used Zinc.. Just cheap plain old zinc.
Sure zinc will surface rust but so long as it is not touching any other metal it will last longer and hold up better than SS. A plain old zinc bolt is almost 10 times stronger than any plain old SS bolt.
