This antenna looks like a standard land based sat dish with a rail mount. This would might work ok if your boat was tied really tight and didn't move in a dock. I doubt it would work (or work well) if you were on swinging on the anchor or even bouncing around in the slip. You could mount it on a piling next to the boat to get better reception. The dish needs to remain pointed toward the satellite during viewing or there is no signal (or very limited signal). That is the reasoning behind the tracking systems that raise the price on marine sat TV's. They are still really expensive even for the lowest end tracking sat dishes.

the tugboat company i work for bought one of the rv trackers and so far " 7 months now " its doing the job. we have direct tv while moving and at anchor.

If you look at their FAQs they even say it won't work at anchor, its only for when you are tied up at a dock in a marina. They make it sound like it has tracking technology in it. Really are they're saying if the boat stays still enough, it will work - and it won't work any better than a standard fixed mount antenna.
Use free HDTV service. All North America has them now. Basically it is UHF. I use the Davis wind vane shaft as element and an amplifier on top of the mast. Pull in 23 HDTV channels.
The wind vane is almost the exact 1/4 wave length of UHF. The amplifier just pull on more distance. Total cost $40.00

alexco38 - Depending on your phisical location you can get over 100 HDTV channels.
I've been looking for something to use as an antenna to get TV. I also like chuck's campingworld link. That's a really good price for a tracking dish. I'm not sure a lot of people think about free HDTV and that's it available out there.
